TOTAL NUMBER OF KNIVES : 1
MAKER : Unknown
PATTERN : Engraved Dagger and Sheath
LENGTH : Blade length is almost 8½ inches and the OAL is 12½ inches.
HANDLE : Wood and there are no handle problems.
TANG STAMPS : None
CONDITION : Stained and patinaed but blade is full. Check it out in the photos.
DAMAGE : Just about what you would expect on a very old knife.
BOX: None
AGE : Best guess is from the early 1800s.
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN : Not completely sure but Japan is my best guess. On the engraving is a lot I don't understand but there are a couple of flowers and I suspect they represent chrysanthemums, which are typical on Japanese knives.
BLADE WEAR : None
SHIELD AND BLADE ETCH : There is no shield and the blade is engraved on both sides and at one time it was gilded. Some of the gold still shows. This is a sizeable engraving and I can best describe it as floral. Just towards the point and in front of the floral engraving is the image of a mean looking dog after a mean looking boar.
