ADDITIONAL INFO:     This is an unusual, and I suspect earlier knife made for Gutman Cutlery. I think the aluminum cast handle with the stag slabs and the deep fuller in the blade probably dates this shortly after World War Two, but this is only a semi-educated guess. I purchased from Guttmann Cutlery while managing a cutlery store in the 1980s. Guttmann imported and distributed the knives they sold but I don't know that they owned a factory or made knives. I did read that at one time they imported Hen and Rooster knives, though I have not been able to verify that personally. They also imported a variety of knives from Japan and butterfly knives from the Philippines. Kurt Guttmann of Guttmann Cutlery became the US distributor of Puma Knives in 1957. Puma changed distributors in 2009. I met a salesman from Guttmann add a knife show around 2009 and he told me they we're no longer distributing Puma Knives and would be moving in other directions. Which direction he did not specify. Just out of curiosity I googled Guttmann and Puma for a little more information. A business media website gave me a little more information on Guttmann Cutlery Inc, including a website. The website was for which Woodshop International Inc which is apparently the importer for Shop Fox woodworking equipment. The corporate PO Box for Guttmann Cutlery Inc and for Woodshop International Inc is this same PO Box number in Bellingham WA.

What I can say about Guttmann Cutlery when I purchased from them in the 1980s is that they had good quality products, especially those made in Germany. Their knives made in Japan were good quality also.

The sheath with this knife is one that I hand made from heavy leather and is reinforced with rivets on the top corners and with a heavy welt to protect the stitching.
