Vintage Gerber Collection - Union Pacific Railroad - Folding Sportsman - Silver Knight - Sakai Japan
Made in America!
Knife 1
This first knife is a vintage Folding Sportsman pattern (FS-1) single blade lockback from the late 70's to mid 80's. It measures 3.5" closed. It has solid brass scales with wood inlays, a 2.5" stainless steel drop point blade and stainless steel spring. It was a limited edition release for Union Pacific railroad company, featuring a beautiful "limited edition" UP blade etch and shield. The mark side tang stamp reads "Gerber" while the pile side reads "Portland, OR. - 97223 USA". It locks open solid, no wobble or play. Great snap on close, with half stop. Light marks on brass, no chips or cracks. Factory edge. Never used, carried or sharpened.
Knife 2
The next knife is a Japanese made, 2 blade model, Silver Knight (7621) by Sakai from the late 70's to mid 80's. It measures 3.25" closed. It features Japan's finest, Gingami Number 1 (RC 58-60) stainless steel blades, dark wooden (250 B) scales with large brushed steel bolsters. The mark side bolster features a "Union Pacific Systems" engraving with Union Pacific logo. The main blade is a 2.5" drop point with a Union Pacific logo etch along with the words "Addis Terminal - 3 Years Perfect Safety - 1981 - 1982 - 1983" I found that the UP Addis Terminal is located in Baton Rouge, LA. The mark side tang stamp reads "Gerber - Portland, OR" while the pile side reads "Silver Knight by Sakai Japan" The secondary is a sharp angled 1.5" sheepsfoot blade with no stamps or etching. The wood scales have some dings, scratches and light chips. The main blade has some light scratches from what appears to be blade rub. Both blades lock open solid with no wobble or play. Main blade has good snap, secondary is sluggish.
Knife 3
The full Silver Knight series was discontinued in 1995. But, in 2002, a very limited line of only 3 Silver Knight models were released. This new series was only available for a short time before they permenently disappeared in 2006. During this run, Gerber added this single blade lockback model 8381 to the line. It measures approx 3.25" closed. It features an all stainless steel constuction, with a 2.5" GW-1 stainless steel drop point blade, stainless steel spring and brushed steel scales with lanyard hole. Blade locks open solid, no wobble or play. Still maintains good snap on close. The scales have very limited marks from carrying and the blade has a mirror finish, with no signs of use or sharpening. The only issue is some light rust and pitting on the corner of the spine and pile side (see pics) For this reason, I'm essentially throwing this knife into the group for free, despite it's original MSRP of $46. It is still very well built and would make a great EDC.
Perfect deal for train enthusiasts, Union Pacific employees or Gerber collectors.
