Vintage Winchester Razor!
Made in America!
The one and only Winchester Repeating Arms Company teamed up with Simmons Hardware to open up a line of their own hardware stores; which operated from about 1918 to 1930. These stores offered a whole catalog of tools, hardware and other goods. You could swing by the Winchester store to pick up a hammer, a flashlight, or even a pair of roller skates! Despite producing high quality products for over a decade, the endeavor wasn't as successful as they had hoped. And although the Winchester brand survived, the Great Depression forced them to abandon the Winchester Store operation.
This razor does not bear the "Winchester Store" mark, but it is my understanding that this type of razor was sold at their stores around the same era. Winchester also made straight razors from the late 1800's into the early 1900's. Some knife and razor companies began experimenting with disposable razor designs such as this after the turn of the century. This razor is comprised of 2 main parts. Nearly the entire piece is constructed of one solid piece of metal, with a small, removable plate which held the razor blade in place. Once the blade had become dull, after use, it would be thrown away and a new blade could be inserted. You can still buy these blades and shave with this as your daily user!
** This razor still has a blade in it. PLEASE DO NOT SHAVE WITH THIS BLADE. If you intend to shave with it, be sure to replace the blade first!
**Note: I am new to knife collecting and selling. All descriptions are to the best of my knowledge and in an attempt to be as honest and forthright as possible in regards to knife condition. I have conducted hours upon hours of research on each individual knife that comes into my possession in an attempt to set a fair price. PLEASE feel free to contact me for more information on this or any other item in my store.
