EdgeMark 473 Bowie Hunting Knife - Solingen, Germany - Genuine Stag 1950's-1970's
Made in Solingen, Germany!
Edge Mark and Edge Brand were imported to the US by Gutmann Cutlery following WW2. These brands appear to have been identical in quality and style, and were likely made for Gutmann under contract by different Solingen manufacturers. (Othello is commonly credited with being one maker) You can find the 473 with both "EdgeMark" and "Edge Brand" tang stamps. The EdgeMark stamp seems to be less common. These knives were well built, with top quality high carbon steel blades and gorgeous cuts of thick stag for the handles.
The 473 is the smaller version of their bowie knife, measuring in around 10" overall, with a 6" clip blade. The handle is somewhat on the smaller side, yet the thick stag handle feels good in your hand. (I don't have large hands) This knife has a beautiful patina on both sides of the blade. There is some slight movement at the guard, but that can be tightened up on the pommel screw. (I would do it, but I don't know what I'm doing and don't want to mess it up) It comes with its original leather sheath, with the EdgeMark stamp and elk image.
**Note: I am new to knife collecting and selling. All descriptions are to the best of my knowledge and in an attempt to be as honest and forthright as possible in regards to knife condition. I have conducted hours upon hours of research on each individual knife that comes into my possession in an attempt to set a fair price.
