Victorinox Alox Soldier 1961 Model Swiss Army Knife - 2005 Signature Series "Charles Elsener" 93mm
Victorinox has been the official knife maker for the Swiss Army since 1891, undergoing several changes along the way. The 1961 Soldier Model became the familiar, standard issue Swiss Army Knife for decades and has had several variations of it's own. The original model had red aluminum scales, which were almost immediately upgraded (1964) to the standard polished aluminum scales we see today. The globally recognized red shield with white cross was first introduced in 1977; and was then changed to a darker red color around 2003. In 2003, and again in 2005, Victorinox released a limited edition Soldier Model which sports a blade etch signature of Charles Elsener, who was CEO at the time. The standard models were still produced and issued during this time, which did not contain the signature blade etch. Luckily for collectors, this model (and only this model) was stamped with a year, from 1961-2008; making identification much easier.
