Pontus Holmberg – Sweden - stag handle

PATTERN:   Fixed blade

OAL:   7-3/4” (19.5 cm)

BLADE LENGTH:   3-3/4” (9.5 cm)

GUARD:   Brass

POMMEL: Aluminum mushroom pommel 

HANDLE:   Stag

FRONT TANG STAMP: Only partly legible. It appears to say P. HOLMBERG / ESKILSTUNA  

REAR TANG STAMP:   SWEDEN  

SHEATH:   Heavy duty handmade, hand sewn sheath which I made.

CONDITION:   Very Good except for legibility of tang stamp

DAMAGE:   Normal use and wear, sharpening marks, etc.

MADE IN:   Sweden

ADDITIONAL INFO:     Both John Goins and Bernard Levine mentioned P Holmberg knives in their signature words. Levine dates Holmberg as 1900 to 1930s; Goins dates the company from 1900 to 1920s.

The most information I found is quoted below. It is from TalkBlade.info by a member of that for unnamed “kwackster.”  I also found the same information posted by the same person on BladeForums.

“Vintage P.Holmberg hunting knife, made in the Swedish city of Eskilstuna. Pontus Holmberg (1852 – 1893) started his factory in 1876 (Aktiebolaget Pontus Holmberg).
When Pontus died in 1893, the company was first operated by Pontus’ brother Fritiof Holmberg (1860 – 1911) and later by Fritiof’s sons Fritiof Ragnar (1889 – 1916) and Fritiof Ruben (1893 – 1952).
In 1951, the company was sold to Heljestrands industries, and the company produced barrel knives at least until 1954.
The company closed its doors in the early 1960's.” – From TalkBlade.info

I cannot speak to the accuracy of the information listed, but it is appears to be correct so far as I have been able to discover.
