This is a Vintage or Antique Unbranded, though Most Likely made by the Novelty Cutlery Co., the Canton Cutlery Co. or Aerial, as these three were the major makers of picture knives. This is a nice, lightly used, 2-blade swell end Jack pocket knife. This knife has a lightly used or sharpened carbon steel spear point main blade with a common nail pull. The blade still appears to be close to full. Both faces look generally clean with just the graying patina look of the mini micro-pitting and some scratches from use. It also has a used and sharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. Both faces have some light scattered pitting and staining and scratches from use. The front face has a few very light pits and the rear face is pretty clean. The front tang is stamped NOVCO (in an arch)(over) USA (over) CANTON, O. Both blades have still have good to excellent snap on open and close and hard half-stops. The scales are clear celluloid over a paper substrate though the celluloid has yellowed over time which wasn’t unusual for celluloid scales. They are free of any cracks or splits but they do have scratches most likely from pocket carry over the years. Printed on the paper substrate on both scales are photos of scantily clad women which was a common theme on some picture knives. There are 3 brass handle pins in each scale. It has brightly polished nickel silver bolsters and brightly polished nickel silver rounded end caps. The knife has brightly polished brass liners. The two steel back springs are in great condition with no cracks or breaks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This knife may be unbranded but I’d be certain that it was most likely made by Novelty, Canton or Aerial Cutlery Co and probably pre-1930’s or older. The knife is 3 3/8” in length.
