This is a Vintage CRUCIBLE KNIFE CO. NEW YORK 4-Blade Unofficial Scout Camp/Utility Knife. The knife has 1 cutting blade and 4 different tools on the other three blades. The main blade is a used and sharpened carbon steel spear point with a long nail pull. Both faces are pretty clean with the exception of a couple of pits on the rear face. Stamped on the front tang is CRUCIBLE KNIFE (in a full arch)(over) CO (over) NEW YORK. Next to it is a carbon steel combo-blade with a common nail pull. It has a bottle opener on the bottom and a flathead screwdriver on the top of the blade. Both faces have quite a bit of staining on both faces. On the other end of the frame is a carbon steel can opener blade still in excellent condition. It has just a few light scattered stains on either face. The tooth at the 90° angle seats into a notch on top of the front scale. The fourth blade is a carbon steel leather punch with the tip intact. It also has just a bit of very light scattered staining. All four blades still have excellent hard open and close snap. The knife has a nice set of dark brown jigged stag scales. They’re in perfect condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. There is a long nickel silver gimp style shield on the front scale. Stamped within it is SCOUT. The stamping is deep, clear and very legible with little wear. There is a notch in the top of the front scale where the 90° tooth of the can opener blade rests in the frame while closed. There’s a shallow easy open on top of the rear scale that allows for easier access to the leather punch when opening. There are three polished brass handle pins in each scale. The knife has brightly polished nickel silver rounded bolsters and each has a single flute. The original steel shackle is still attached to the bolsters with the original nickel silver rivets. The knife has brightly polished brass liners and an extra brass liner on the bottom of the rear side. The knife has two heavy duty steel back springs. Both back springs are free of any cracks or breaks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This still nice vintage Crucible Knife Co New York 4-Blade Scout Utility Knife was made between c.1921-1932 and was sold in WT Grant stores. Additional information or photos upon request.
