This Griffin XX Shadow pen pocket knife was made in 1916 for the 42nd Imperial Council Session in Buffalo, N.Y. is in the best condition of any of these hard to find knives I’ve ever seen. Not only are the blades unused but 98% of the original enamel remains on the brass handles. The knife has an unused and unsharpened carbon steel spear point mail blade with a common nail pull. It still has most of its original factory finish and it’s original factory edge. The front face has just a tiny amount of light pitting with a small cluster just under the nail pull. The rear face is pretty clean. Stamped on the front tang is Griffon (in script)(over) XX (over) B’PORT, CT. Stamped on the rear tang is a image of a lion, I believe. On the other end of the frame is an unused and unsharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. It still retains its original factory finish and it’s original factory edge. Stamped on the front tang is Griffon (in script)(over) XX (over) B’PORT, CT. Both blades still have excellent hard open and close snap. The handles, I believe, are brass and have a solid border around the entire handle. The front face is decorated in black enamel with a buffalo wearing a red Shriner Fez with Ismailia Patrol on it and the year of 1916 in black beneath the buffalo head. The back handle has a complete coverage of the low relief area in green enamel. Raised above the relief plane is Ismailia Patrol along with one of the Shriner icons. Beneath that is A.A.O.N.M.S. which stood for the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine which is a Masonic Society established in 1870 and headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Most of the original green enamel remains minus a small area at one end and a smaller area on the other end and then only where there’s a few dings or scratches. There are three brass handle pins in each handle. The knife has a single steel back spring which is free of any cracks or breaks but it does have a small area of very light pitting. The spring continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. This beautiful antique 104 year old Ismailia Patrol knife from the 1916 Council Session is 3” in length and in excellent condition. Additional information or photos upon request.
