ADDITIONAL INFO: I was able to find a little information on this knife while researching online. Kabar started putting numbers on their knives around 1966 when Cole International purchased the company. These models as well as other Kabar models were sold in the military PX and Exchange System. I myself purchased a small Kabar #1226 (Little Finn) from the Navy Exchange at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, California.
This particular 1207 has a fullered blade, although I understand there are other versions of this model that were made without the fuller. This knife has also been customized by the owner’s name is written on the end of the pommel: S.F. Ford Jr.. He also did some engraving or scratching on the leather handle as well as the pommel. The Bar at the makes me think this was a knife that was carried by someone in the military is the knotwork around the pommel. The knotwork is tight not lose, and is high quality work typical of the work I have seen from U.S. Navy personnel. I don’t know for a fact that someone in the US military carried this knife in Vietnam, but the inscribed designs, and the knotwork certainly made me think that is quite likely that someone did carry it in Vietnam. No matter its service in the past, it is ready to go out now and work hard in your next hunt!
