ADDITIONAL INFO: Besides being a Mint or nearly so Camillus #72 Yello-Jaket Carpenters Whittler, this knife has one additional distinction that makes it more rare and desirable. It was apparently made in very low numbers circa 2002-2003. It was made by Camillus for Smoky Mountain Knife Works. We have this information because of a member we had several years ago here at AAPK who worked for Camillus for 30 years, until they closed the doors and his mother had retired from Camillus after working there for 55 years. This gentleman was of course was Tom Williams who was the official historian for Camillus Cutlery and he was adamant that the history of Camillus be saved and passed on. With the help of Larry Vickery much of the history that Tom sent to me is now available online at the Collectors of Camillus website. Unfortunately Tom passed away unexpectedly a few years ago. It was Tom who told us the origin of these unusual Camillus Yello-Jakets that have a different colored Delrin handles, yellow and brown, and a raised shield, (it appears to be acrylic), with a picture of a bee in the shield. I don’t know how many different patterns were made in this Yello-Jacket series with this new design; this is the only one I have seen personally. As I recall several years ago there were a few of these floating around eBay and then they disappeared. I have not seen one since then, but I have not been looking at either. This is a unique piece to add to your Camillus collection, your Yello-Jaket collection or your Camillus #72 whittler collection. I did not find anything wrong with this knife, it still has the factory edge, (complete with burrs from the final sharpening), but I rated it as Near Mint + due to the fact that is not been kept in a box. It was not in a box when I got it and, as a matter of fact I have not seen a box specifically to this style Yello-Jaket.
