This knife and display was part of the group of exhibition knives produced by Cattaragus Cutlery of Little Valley NY and on display at the Panamainian exhibition in 1900.  This is a mother of pearl 3" two bladed jack knife pattern 22893.  The knife functions flawlessly ( great walk and talk )  the mother of pearl has a cheque ( flaw) in the pearl bt the bottom bolster of the obverse side ( see picture ).  This knife comes with a display and mounted letter which reads ( TOP ) EXHIBITION KNIVES CATTARAUGUS CUTLERY COMPANY LITTLE VALLEY NY.  ( first paragraph ) This group of knives was produced to display at various exhibitions and shows.  They were sent to Panama for display in the Panama Exposition in 1900. Unsurpassed quality and workmanship make these possibly the finest group of American made exhibition knives in existence.  ( second paragraph) Cattaraugus Cutlery Company was founded by JBF Champlin in 1880 and began manufacturing knives in 1886,  JBF Chanplin married Theresa Case ( WR Case's sister ).  Little Valley NY is located just a few miles north of Bradford PA.  Tint Champlin ( son of JBF Champlin) ran the business until 1928 and then turned the business over to his sons JBF and Phillip. ( third paragrapg) Cattaraugus was one of the dominant forces in cutlery  for over 60 years. They produced military knves for WWII,  knives for the Byrd Polar Expedition and sponsored whittling competitions,  offering 50,000 in prizes.  They did very little in pocket knives after WWII and closed their business in the mid 1950,s  (forth paragraph) We certify that this knife is one of the original knives from the Cattaraugus Exhibition Collection .  This original letter of authenticity is signed in his hand JAMES PARKER. This is a rare opportunity for someone to own this piece of history I decided to put it on to generate some interest in this site LT LTD Cutlery Collectables which I have recently reactivated. I hope to  be offering some unique old artifacts from  American cutlery  history If you have a favorite brand or something you are looking for let me know  .  Please review the pictures since they are a part of the description. I recently saw a piece on ebay advertising another knife from this collection however it had no documentation and its only provenance was owner to owner word of mouth this piece is offered with the above letter of validation.  Thankyou for your interest LT PS this knife had a little sticker on it identifying it as the knife in the letter I stuck it on the letter in the display so that is with it as well.
