ATTENTION !!! A fella emailed me about this axe,, I lost your email, Please email me back !!!

Folk's, I don't know where to start on this one, its gonna be a long one. This is a super old, super rare Marble's Model # 2 Safety Pocket Axe made between  1903 - 1910. Makes me think it is an earlier one because the # 2 is stamped on  the bottom behind the handle. This was only done occasionly, more so in the the 1st 3 yrs of production. This axe is between 103 -110 yrs old !!!

Webster Marble took a stock of about 100 axes to a trade show at Madision  Square Garden in 1899. In only a few short yrs, Marble's axes could be found from Anartica to Africa & The Marble's Safety Axe Co. became a household name.

W.L. Marble's favorite tie pin was a miniature safety axe, not only because he was so proud of his unique invention, but because to Marble, axes could do everything a knife could do and a whole lot more.

This is a 2nd Model #2... Marble's 1st 3 axes were of Clevis style made from  1899 - 1902. Thats when they changed to this style and made em for 8 yrs. This is a Michigan pattern 3 screw axe. All other axes had Hawk heads, the venarable # 2 being the only Michigan pattern head.

This is a 2nd Model # 2 Marble's Safety Pocket Axe

Axe is 10 3/4" OAL, weighs 21 ozs, 4" long head w/ a 2 1/4" cutting edge

Axe was made from 1903 - 1910

Safety Guard is stamped: MARBLE SAFETY AXE CO. GLADSTONE, MICH. U.S.A. PAT. 1898 On this axe, # 2 is also stamped on the heel behind the handle.

Grips are fancy molded Gutta Percha. (See Pics) They have the Hound & Rabbit on one side, with elaborate scroll work, and the other side is scroll worked and says: Mf'd by WL MARBLE GLADSTONE MICH. MARBLE'S SAFETY POCKET AXE

Guard & handle is heavily nickeled

Guard has the 2 indents on each side.. The guard works fantastic, half cock, in handle, and set on blade edge

Condition: This axe is unbelieveble for well over 100 yrs old !!! It is most certainly solidly between Good & Excellent Condition. The handle is almost perfect, heavily nickled, scales beautiful, head has staining as does the top of the handle. In the dark spots on the head and handle, you can see some minor surface pitting. Guard is great and stamp is clear. Supersize the pics for a close-up look What can ya say but it is solid from top to bottom. I would think with the proper cleaning it could almost become a museum piece.

Folk's, this is the 2nd Axe that was ever made by Marble's. It started being made in 1903 right when Marble changed their name from W.L. Marble Maker to The Marble Safety Axe Company. I am very proud to offer this piece of American history for someone to put in him/her's collection. Please supersize the pics on the next page for a close-up look at this antique Marble safety axe !!! Please email me if you need additional pics !!!
