Folk's, when the Lauermans took over Marble's in the mid 1990's, they hired Mike Stewart to head their knife division... They re-created some of the companies most well known & famous knives, and the Marble's Ideal is most certainly on the top of that list !!! Folk's, if you have never had the pleasure to hold one of these big Ideal's in your hand, you cannot imagine what a massive piece of cutlery they are !!!

Folk's, the Marble's Ideal was the 1st knife in the Marble's lineup...1899 was its birthday, and by 1915 this knife had taken America by storm !!! Explorers from Teddy Roosevelt to Peary & Byrd who were the explorers to reach the north & south poles carried Ideals...Charles Lindbergh spent 1lb of his precious cargo weight to carry a Marble's Ideal, Matchbox, and Compass in the cockpit of the 1st solo Trans-Atlantic flight, now on display in the Smithsonian Institution !!!

By the end of its 3rd decade of production(1930) Marble's had become the world's most famous maker of outing equipment...From pole to pole, around the globe, the Marble's Ideal was the standard by which all other hunting knives were measured !!!

Folk's, look around the web and knife shows you attend, there is just not that many new Ideal's for sale...alot of old vintage ones, but very few of the newer 1998-2003 rebirth era at the company, with Mike Stewart there from 1997 till 2002, then after Craig Lauerman sold out the company in 2003-4,,,these 7-8 years was some of the best produced knives in their 111 yr history,, bar none !!! The reason I heard for the Ideal shortage was that it was to expensive to machine the big fuller in the knife blade, costing 20 bucks a knife on the larger Ideal blades like the 7 & 8 inch models,,  and that the cutting tool having to be replaced often, was very costly... they were just not made in large run quantaties at all folk's,, "sales pitch be darned", just fact !!! I am very pleased that I can offer an Ideal such as this for sale !!!

This is the Marble's 8" Ideal

This is a 1/2 Guard / 1/2 Hilt Ideal

Knife is 13" OAL with a 8" blade

Big heavy Brass guard/hilt to prevent accidents during heavy cutting/choping camp chores

This Marble's knife is 1 of 112 that were made !!!

Folk's back in 1904, Webster Marble designed and put his Special Hunting knife pattern into production...sadly, this pattern Marble knife only was made from 1904 - 1914...it was the victim of the Marble's Woodcraft that came out and was so well recieved around the world, the Special was dropped from the Marble's line of knives...During Mike Stewart's tenure at Marble's, the Special was re-created both in full size and this Mini-Special Hunter below...I once saw bout 4 yrs ago at a very extensive Marble's collection auction I attended, a full size Special go for I believe $3850.00 !!! Below is a re-created Mini version of this remarkable knife

This is the Marble's Pinned Stag Mini-Special Hunter

Larger Pictures / More Details

Folk's...I got a little knife for ya all here that is just a Rare find with its Original Pigskin leather sheath...these knives were used back in the day...as were the sheaths...very few sheaths survived over the years,, as they were left in tackle boxes and such and just fell apart over the years from not being cared for proper....

This is the second model Trout knife Marble's made and you can tell that buy the the tapered top edge of the knife...early models were flat all the way across and the later 2nd model had the taper to the point of the blade tip...This knife has the clear distinction of being the "Only" 1 Piece knife that Marble's had ever made !!! Its a gem of a little knife with the ring on the end and was used just as it was intended to use when it was designed !!!

This is the Marble's Trout Knife

Knife is 5 9/16" OAL

Blade is 2" in length

End of knife has the round ring for easy holding & using of the knife

Knife is stamped: Marble's in the center of the handle and you can see the stamp in a close-up in the pics provided

Condition: knife is in Outstanding condition, harly no blade loss to speak of ...a few scratches on the front side of blade that you can see in pics, off side is very good and the whole knife still has a shine to it

The sheath is Pigskin Leather with a metal edge all the way around the sheath...***Note*** These sheaths are very rare to find,,especially in this wonderfull condition...there were very few survivors from this era ...and... if you look on page 97 of Arni's Encyclopedia of Marble's Sporting Collectibles...this sheath here is in better shape than the one in the book !!!

Sheath Condition: Amazing...almost perfect..no tears, solid, hard to believe it is that good after 80 plus years !!! See pics and judge for yourself

Item # 60924 - MARBLES STAG on STAG TRAIL MAKER W/ SHEATH - TRANSITION MODEL STAMP-SCARCE- A MARBLES LEGEND !
5_60924_1485210863_1.JPG
Larger Pictures / More Details

Folk's, the Trailmaker has 3 distinctions within the Marble's Corp.

(1) It is the biggest knife Marble's ever made at 15" OAL in their storied history

(2) It is the heaviest at over 1 LB

(3) And it was the most expensive knife ever offered in their line

Webster Marble being an inventor supreme, was allways trying to come up with the perfect outdoor tool. The same way he invented a small axe...the safety axe...that could do the work of a large knife...he tried too make a large knife that would do the work of an axe...his answer was the Trailmaker !!! He was quoted as saying: there is no one cutting tool that will serve as many purposes as the Trail Maker...He came up with the name TrailMaker from a then common practice of marking trails by cutting bark off the side of trees and following the marked trees out !!!

This is a Transition Model Traimaker...Note the stamp,,etched instead of the regular stamp with USA added in 2006....from what info I have been told, this stamp was used only a short peroid of time with the etched USA & Banner stamp on it in late 2005 to very early 2006 before their regular stamp was made and put into use..making this a Transition Model knife

This is the Marble's TrailMaker

Knife is 15" OAL with a 10" blade

Knife is etched stamped: Marble's with the Banner stamp over USA

Blade is a massive .250 thousands thick... a full 1/4" thick of high carbon blade vanadium steel !!!

Handle is Gorgeous Genuine Stag, as is the pommel, full Stag on Stag pattern tradition at Marbles for over 100 yrs..., Wow, what a great feeling knife in the hand for such a huge knife !!! Stag is nice and thick and has great character all the way around the handle !!!

Comes with its Original Marble's stamped deep oil tanned  leather sheath...sheath has the Internal Cut Guard that is so important with these big blade knives so you do not slice your sheath taking the knife in and out...Sheath is Brand New condition

Condition: Knife is in New condition, never carried or used

Please supersize pics on the next page for a close-up look at this massive Marble's TrailMaker, a Marble's legend !!!

Folk's, I have Marble's books from 1997 thru 2004, I have scoured them all and cannot find this pattern blade in any of them !!! I assume this is a Custom order for the folk's at Ducks Unlimited...the 4 pin construction, and the color of the Stag (rare for Marble's) resembles the color of stag on some Custom knives that were made for AG Russell in Arkansas in 2001...so...I believe that while them knives were being made, Ducks Unlimited slipped in this special order to Mike Stewart & Craig Lauerman for this particular knife.....

Its a great drop point hunter, has a very generous area at the Choil that you could go past the guard and do some surgeon like cutting chores with it....it also boasts a 24 K Gold Etch of their Logo on the front of the blade....add in the 4 pin build of the stag slabs, and Wow, you have a very special Marble's knife in your hand !!!

This knife was carefully engineered to be a Brute of a knife in a compact package !!! The profile curve of the blade results in fast, efficient cutting power from the choil to the point, and with the choil area big enough to grip, so you can maximize edge control for super fine cutting chores...on the top side of this pattern, the backspine of the blade tapers from the point back to the hilt, you can exert extra pressure on it for heavy cutting chores like joints in big game critters !!! Folk's, I have a really unique knife that Marbles made app. 11-13 years ago for ya....

It is used in Cowboy shooting circles where they dress the peroid & compete in Cowboy action shooting compititions. Also used in alot of old west re-enactments. Very, very, unique design, coffin handle, like the old western bowies and kinda on the scarce side.

They are made with walnut handles...The Outdoor knives were the very 1st knives that Marble's made that were not traditional forged blades and the "Only" ones that were approved by W.L. Folk's, when Jim & Craig Lauerman bought Marble's in 1994, they dedicated  themselves to bring the company back to its former glory. Well in my opinion,  they did just that. Webster Marble would surely be proud of this Father - Son team !!! From 1997 to 2002, Marble's churned out some of their best fixed blade knives in their 112 yr history !

With Mike Stewart heading their knife division, they got one of the most respected knife guys in the state... they re-created old classics & came out with custom knives like the one below !!! The Buffalo Horn handle topped off with a Stag pommel is just gorgeous !!! This is also a Woodcraft, proably the most copied fixed blade knife pattern in history, once its 1916 patent ran out in the early 1930's, Case, Ka-Bar, German cutlers, etc. all made a Woddy look-a -like after Webster's patent expired !!! The Bonus, it bears the Marble's address on the stamp & being a lifelong Michigan resident & Marble's collector, that's the iceing on the cake !!!

This is the Marble's Buffalo Horn/ Stag Custom Woodcraft

Knife is 9" OAL with a 4 3/4" blade

Knife is stamped: Marble's Gladstone, Mi. U.S.A.

Blade is 52/100B high carbon ball bearing steel. This type steel dominated the ABS sponsored World Cutting Championships !!! The blade is .216 thousands thick folk's. Measure up your Case 523-5's or Kodiaks and you will come up with allmost half that !!!

Handle is beautiful Buffalo Horn, topped off with  gorgeous piece of Stag for the pommel...The Buffalo Horn and Stag is all tied together with the famous Marble's spacer system

Condition: Knife is New, never used or carried...Please Note....on the back side of the handle, it has a fine seasoning check app.1/2" long...hardly noticeable, and all tight, never to be a problem, but it is there...we do not want no surprises that disatifies anyone !!!

Knife comes with an replica leather sheath made just like the 1950's ones with the Moose & Goose stamped into the leather

Sorry, No box with this knife

Item # 59637 - MARBLE'S GUTA PERCHA-SAFE GRIP IDEAL-BOBCAT BOX-1997-2001 SHEATH & BOX-AN AMERICAN ICON-NICE !!!

Folk's,,,I got an Ideal here that is made almost identical to Webster's 1st model knife he invented in 1898 !!! Super scarce to find an Ideal in Bobcat box, flap over leather sheath, as these 2 items were only used 1998-2001, and this knife has the old Rubber or Gutta Percha handle material, 1st used at Marble's 118 years ago !!! This one has the Banner 2002 stamp on it, so made late 2001-2002

Folk's, the Ideal Hunting knife was Webster Marble's 1st attempt at knife making, and as it turned out, his most successful. Introduced to the world in 1899, W L Marble had this to say about his design : This knife is the Ideal cross between a sticking and skinning knife.... hand made, hand tested. There is about as much difference between our Ideal Hunting knives and any other knife... as there is between a porcupine & a grizzly bear !!!

This is Marble's 1st knife pattern. Prototyped in 1899 in the 1st versions, and by 1901, this Marble's Ideal pattern took America by storm !!! It was in the cockpit on the 1st trans-atlantic flight, now on display in the Smithsonian Institution !!! it was carried by explorers worldwide on expeditions to every corner of the world, including Peary & Byrds north & south pole expeditions, Teddy Roosevelt was a big Marble's customer... By the end of its 3rd decade of production, (1930) from Pole To Pole, around the globe, the Marble's Ideal was the hunting knife that by which all others were measured !!!

Folk's, look around the web and knife shows you attend, there is just not that many new Ideal's for sale...alot of old vintage ones, but very few of the newer 1998-2006 rebirth era after the Lauermans purchase of the company,,, the reason I heard was that it was to expensive to machine the big fuller in the knife blade, costing 20 bucks a knife on the larger Ideal blades and with the cutting tool having to be replaced often... they were not made in large run quantaties at all !!!

Knife was made in late 2001 or early 2002 in Gladstone, Michigan, U.S.A. at the old Marble's factory

Knife is 8 3/4" OAL

Blade is 4 1/4"

Knife has a hilt / guard shaped right into the handle

Handle is Gutta Percha (Rubber) now called safe grip by Marble's

Blade is brushed finish high carbon vanadium steel or 52/100 steel, i do not know which... Ideals are 1st recognized by the Huge Fuller on each side.

Also has the Original Marble's deep oil tanned  big Flap Over leather sheath with internal cut guard, nice feature so you do not slice your sheath taking it in and out...I believe the sheath has room for a fire starting rod and a stone to boot, all ya need in one package !!!

Knife is new condition, never carried, sharpened or used...

Whole package comes in the Marble's Bobcat box

It was billed as a knife that could fullfill every demand the professional trapper, guide, or big game hunter could throw at it...it has most definately held up its end of the challenge !!! It is 2 knives in 1 to the user...a great knife to field dress big game & one of the very best skinning knives on the planet !!!

This is a Marble's Custom knife folk's, stamped, not acid etch stamped, made in 1997-1998...it has several different traits with the Leather / Stag combo, No grooves on backspine like alot of Woodys, and the measurements are 1/16 too 1/4 inch larger than a older Woody...a true Custom, alot of these very short runs were done when Mike Stewart was just starting to run the company....I beleive to jumpstart so to speak their sales and intrest after a 25 year absense in the cutlery business

This is the Marble's Custom Leather/Stag/Leather Woodcraft

Knife is 9" OAL with a 4 3/4" blade & aluminum pommel

Blade is stamped: Marble's Gladstone Mi USA...made 1997-1998

Knife comes with its Original stamped Marble's leather sheath

Whole package comes to ya in the old Bobcat box
