CLOSED LENGTH: 4-3/8 inches

BLADE LENGTH: 3-1/2 inches

BOLSTERS: Nickel silver

HANDLES: Jugged Honey Horn

BLADES: Carbon steel rope blade

LINERS: Steel

CONDITION: Newly customized 1940’s knife.

DAMAGE: Some scratching at the end of the blade that could not be removed when customizing.

This knife started life as a rope knife of the type used by the Coast Guard in life rafts (though it does not have the Coast Guard markings). I removed the wooden handles and replaced them with handles of jigged honey horn. I filed the backspring with a rope pattern and filed threading and crown work on the bolsters. This is a great knife to add to your collection or an eye-catching user.

MAKER: Camillus

CUSTOMIZER: Dale Vincent, Orvet Customs

PATTERN: Full Tang, Fixed Blade Hunter

OAL: 8-3/4 inches

BLADE LENGTH: 4-1/4 inches tip to bolster

BOLSTER: Brass

HANDLE: Sambar Stag

TANG STAMPS: Front Tang- CAMILLUS Rear Tang- U.S.A.

SHEATH: Custom Tooled Leather Sheath by Paul Long of Kerrville, TX. Sheath has soft leather lining.

CONDITION: New Customized knife from a Camillus blank

MADE IN: U.S.A. and Customized in the U.S.A.

ADDITIONAL INFO:         I purchased this blank after the Camillus factory closed in 2007. The handles are thick slabs of Sandbar Stag. The handles are attached with mosaic pins and glue. The glue prevents moisture from getting between the tang and handles and causing damage. The bolsters are hand cut from brass stock and pinned. Between the tang and the stag, and between the bolsters and the stag is a layer of black liner material which serves as a contrast to the white part of the stag where it is hafted to meet the bolsters and tang.

The sheath was custom made for this knife by Paul Long of Kerrville Texas. Paul has been a friend for many years and is one of the most accomplished custom sheath makers in the U.S.A. This sheath is made from heavy weight cowhide. It is tooled with a basket weave pattern on the front and accented with the edge of the dark brown liner. The inside of the sheath is lined with soft gloving leather. The back of the sheath is stamped with Paul’s signature logo. The sheath itself is a work of art.

Here is a One-Of-A-Kind knife for your collection or for your use.

I file worked the backspring and the spine of the blade with vine & leaf filework, continuing the pattern through the joint where the backspring meets the blade.

Item # 21189 - CAMILLUS CUSTOM BOOT KNIFE with Snake Wood handles

Larger Pictures / More Details

MAKER: Customized Camillus
PATTERN: Boot Knife
BLADE LENGTH: 3 inches

OVERALL LENGTH          7 inches
HANDLES: Snake wood
BLADE: Double edge dagger style
TANG STAMPS: Front Stamp: CAMILLUS/N.Y. U.S.A. - Rear Stamp: Dale R. Vincent/Salem, OR
CONDITION: New
DAMAGE: None
AGE: 2007
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
BLADE WEAR: None
BLADE ETCH: NoneSHEATH: Black leather with basket weave pattern on front; back side boot or belt metal clip, (a two-in-one style clip). I believe this to be a Camillus factory sheath, though it is unmarked.

ADDITIONAL INFO:        This knife is made with a blade from the Camillus factory that was unfinished when they closed in 2007. I finished the blank with genuine Snake Wood handles. The handles are held on with mosaic pins and also with epoxy to prevent moisture from getting behind the wood and causing damage. The Snake Wood is sanded to about 4000 grit and the wood is polished to a high sheen with hard carnauba wax. Due to the oily nature of Snake Wood, the handles will not take a traditional finish such as polyurethane or other spirit based finishes.

Item # 18887 - CUSTOM CAMILLUS 152 With Bubinga Wood Handles
37_18887_1240944272_1.jpg
Larger Pictures / More Details

This knife is a Camillus version of the famous Schrade Sharpfinger. Camillus began the manufacture of this knife after Schrade closed in July, 2004. They had made many of the knives for Schrade since they were owned by the same family. Camillus closed it doors about 2 ½ years later in February of 2007. When Camillus closed there were some unfinished blanks sold. This knife is made from one of those blanks. The handle is Bubinga. The wood I used on this handle is a highly figured species also known as Waterfall Bubinga. This piece has some chatoyance to it similar to that found in Hawaiian Koa Wood. The effect is much like the old Waterfall Celluloid, where the grain seems almost to move or flow when held in the proper light and moved slowly. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OAL 7 inches. The handles are glued to the tang to prevent moisture from getting between the tang and the handles. Mosaic pins made of brass & nickel silver also hold on the handles, (see close-up in picture 3). There is a hole for a lanyard lined with brass tubing. The knife is stamped Camillus/New York/U.S.A. The blade is etched with my name as the one who customized the knife. This knife comes with a nice leather sheath from Camillus. ***Made in the USA***
