I just got this 4 blade from another forum member & can't find any info on the maker.
Sunk Joints, covered backsprings, 2 pens in addition to blades shown.
When in business etc. ? Any info appreciated.

Hi Fran. Nice mop knife. I'm sure that Regent Street address is in London. That means Gay & Sons was a retailer rather than maker. I'll see if I can find something about it for you.

Fran I agree with Steve, my first though was English.
There seems to be a conection between Gay & Son Regent St and this link to The Illustrated London News 1854.

I couldn't find it, but there is alot to look through. Good luck.

As far as the Knife goes.

Advert = 'Patent India-Rubber Combs - W. Gay & son, 113 High Holborn, have now ready Dressing Back and Side Combs of this wonderful invention, combining great strength with an agreeable elasticity and a polish that cannot be destroyed by acids or hot water: equal to Tortoiseshell for wear, and at the prices of Buffalo Horn.'
this is from pen's link. bolsters steves thoughts.

113 High Holburn is also a St in London.
How much do you think one of those real Tortoiseshell combs would go for today?

Thank you gentlemen. This one seems a little less like an orphan now.
