All About Pocket Knives

I was wondering about the quality of Boker backsprings. I have have one Boker with a weak backspring and was wondering if thats the case for all of them. I just wanted to know if they usually have a nice snap or if they're pretty weak like mine. Thanks guys.

new? old? what kind of knife? picture? i have had several bokers, u.s.a. and a couple of the germans, all were good.

A tortoise copperhead got in new in autumn of 07. How are the springs on your bokers, do they have a nice snap? I'll post pics latter on.

I am with Johnnie, I have several Bokers; German, American & even a couple of their Magnum series, which I found out later were made in China.

I don't think I have seen any of the Bokers with bad springs. The Magnums have "magnum springs".........some of the strongest springs around today. While not a china knife fan, I would have to say the Boker Magnums are the best china made knives I have seen.

The only issue I have noted with Bokers is that their round shields tend to fall off more than other companies. Might be that the round shape doesn't hold in the handle as well as the irregular shapes do. Bun again, not a big issue as I think I am only talking about 2 or 3 knives out of a couple dozen.

Over all; I really like the Bokers I have........good quality knives.

I might be wrong about this one, but I think the new tortoise shells are made in China now

I like Boker - Generally speaking they are a well made and fairly priced knife.

Here it is, a Boker Tortise-shell Celluloid Copperhead. It's not that the springs are broken they're just weak, a good tap on my knee will close the blades, not to secure . How are the springs on the Bokers you guys own?

Corbin - the only Boker I have right now is a sodbuster, made in Argentina. It's real solid, sharp and pretty good snap.

I was looking at a used congress pattern from Germany the other day and it had a very crisp snap on all 4 blades. Almost bought it, but I picked up a few Moore Makers instead. I'm planning on going back for it - hope it's still there.

Corbin, this is only one man's (mine) opinion but BOKER is an excellent knife. The only new ones I have are mostly stag and a couple of bone but fit and finish is really good. I like them old and new. I have never had any trouble with a new knife but I'm willing to bet if your not satisfied with the knife, they will make it right. These folks have been in business many years and you don't stay in this business not making customers happy. I also wouldn't let this knife defer me from buying other BOKER products, just my 2 penny's. Good luck!

I just picked up a couple of new Bokers and am very pleased with them! Nice red bone handles with carbon steel. The backsprings are real strong. Nice snap on both, especially the congress

We have a new member who's had a problem with a Boker backspring breaking. I bumped this thread in hopes you could follow up about how they responded when you contacted them regarding the problem you were having with your Boker.

I never contacted Boker about it and my springs didn't break so I can't really help out much, sorry.

I have several Boker knives. All of the German ones are excellent snap!!!!! grade A

I have a few American Bokers that I would say are not of the same quality. But I have seen no issues with blade snap and back springs, just don't seem to be as well made.

I always collect American first and German second.....maybe an English here and there. Boker to me is German first.

It is one of my favorite brands!

I tend to favour Boker because they all have a nice spring snap and are well made.
In my experience, only Victorinox has a better and more consistent walk and talk.
The Vic. quality control is the best.

Agreed Edgewise. If you want CONSISTENT quality, you want Victorinox. In my opinion a couple of big company's could learn a thing or two from them.

That's one thing I liked about the USA Schrades, very good
consistency of quality overall.
Speaking of Bokers, here is a Wildlife Series #2 from 1990
I found in the 'bay recently. Bald Eagle theme, American
white Oak scales on a stockman just a shade under 4" OALc.

No springs complaints on this one. But for some real snap my
best example is a 1982 Queen 9105 Jack. Closing, it says
'CLACK', not snap. I think the current model is called a #2
but I don't know if they are still as stout as the 1982.

These two not as purty as Bum's example but I'll get by somehow.
Fragile tree shields come off easily if they aren't gone already.
I like natural satin finish on the Thuya burl better than original lacquered finish.
One had bolster dent, other had some pitting on the carbon blades.
Oh well, they can't stay 'like new' forever, right?
