sharpening how-to??

Post by scubamedic5011 »

Hey all,

I'm looking for a well-trusted ''how-to'' visual guide on sharpening. I know that there are several different ways to accomplish those beautiful mirrored-edge finishes. I'm looking to pick something up to not only help correct any bad habits that I may have, but to give me a little more insight into the process from coarse stone all the way to stropping.

Thank you in advance!
C'mon now, that's just science!

If you need me, I'll be over in the corner. Talking to myself. They think I'm funny.

Welcome to AAPK! Your question is one that pops up here often, typically from a new member. Not trying to be flippant at all but AAPK has a great "search" feature. If you search for "sharpening" or "sharpen" you'll find more than you ever thought possible about it. (You'll also find numerous incidental references but you can sort through those quickly.) Find the threads dedicated to the topic. Here's one example http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... Sharpening You'll find a lot of options, and lot of opinions. You'll have to sort through that on your own! ::handshake::

The search feature can be easily accessed by going up there ^ on the left of the page and clicking on "Quick links". Scroll down to "Search", click on it. You're on your way!

Hope you enjoy, you'll learn a lot! ::nod::

This video shows only very basic sharpening but it is very informative. The beginning steps of sharpening is the most important part and when done to the full, proper extent will make the following steps easier and more effective.
