ok, I am getting soft in the head but don't mind asking for help..
Just he other night I found a post reference picture listing the names of 20 or so very old manufacturers (something like 'manufacturers in business in 1800s'.. mostly NY maybe exclusively NY??
This was followed by a wonderful string of knife photos and stories about examples in various collections... Can anyone help re-post that discussion so I can review the list again, thanks

Re: 1800 ??Knife manufacturers
Here's a list of ma6ny manufacturers from all over. Probably not the thread you're looking for but a good one nonetheless.

Re: 1800 ??Knife manufacturers
You are correct both times....
it is a great list to keep.....
and yes unfortunately it is not the one I had hoped for.
The remainder of the thread you sent I have great respect for.....
Some of my older American knives are probably works of art as well as a knife but
I have a soft spot for those classic IXL type English whittlers....
I have come across several manufacturers with that same very thick master blade and the slight taper down the body of the knife, and that old English stag or bone scale is really a favorite...thanks for sharing.

Re: 1800 ??Knife manufacturers
This may be the thread - listing of 27 cutlery manufacturers in 1882 - bit more than half are CT makers followed by MA and NY... hope that helps!
