Something strange
I got this nice schrade 863 in the mail a few days ago and was just getting around to sharpening it and I noticed this, a crack in the small clip blade that goes almost the full vertical length of the blade. The pictures are not so good, but look for the line in front of the tang. The knife is minty and unused, I'm the first to sharpen it but now it will need a blade replacement. Quite a bummer, I've NEVER had a defect this bad on any knife I've ever bought.

Check with Herman Williams. He probably has a blade and can fix you up. What a bloody shame.

Paul:
I'm sure you've already thought of this but I'd contact the seller and see if it could be returned if you choose to do so. The aforementioned "blade replacement" is another good option.
It sounds as though the crack was not mentioned in the description, otherwise you wouldn't have bought it. Therefore, a return, or at least a partial refund should be in order, and you could use that money to help with the cost of a new blade.
Let us know what happens.

Re: Something strange
I emailed the seller so we will see what happens. I won't say who it is but he is a straight and honest seller I have bought from before and is a big contributor to our knife collecting community so I have no doubt it will work out. In the meantime does anybody know how I can contact Herman Williams? I can't find a website or anything, but he's probably the only person that would have spare blades for this lying around. Otherwise I would have to find a NOS pen blade.

Re: Something strange
What vintage 863 is it? It could be a Swinden construction, which makes blade replacement certainly more involved.
Shame aboutn hat blade, I'd check with the seller and see what they'll do.

That is a shame!
I checked my stock of new blades, but I don't have one.

KnifeSlinger#81,
If you have not found a blade for your Schrade 863, I have the small clip blade. If you don't have a way to turn the center pin when putting the knife back together you can contact me through eBay email. just pull up any fo my listings and contact "electra225".

Re: Something strange
Thanks to everybody for your suggestions. I thought I would update by saying I heard back from the seller, he was very gracious and offered me a full refund. We worked out a partial refund and I will put that towards a blade replacement. A good ending!
