What is your holy grail?
What is your holy grail?
With almost all collectors of anything, there usually is a holy grail that would be the pinnacle of your collection. As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm just now getting into collecting even though I've always carried a folder in my pocket for the past 50 years. So I don't really have a holy grail yet. Since Schrade is the brand owned most over the years, I lean toward that brand. Thinking a first year 2OT mint in its box might be the one for me, but not sure yet.
So what is your holy grail? Is it a particular knife model, or maybe a set of knives? There is a wide variety of tastes here, curious to see what floats everybody's boat.

Re: What is your holy grail?
I got the winning bid on my grail last night, a schrade cut co 8813. Now I guess my grail to hunt down is a minty original 8ot with bone and the wood box they came in.

Re: What is your holy grail?
If I had the money, I guess for me it would be a Queen Dan Burke Black Lip Pearl.
Right now, one seller has two of them on eBay in Black Lip Pearl and two more in MOP. $430 for the Black Lip Pearl and $390 for the MOP (OBO). That's a lot of money for a 3" knife. Guess I should have bought one when they could be bought for $200.

Re: What is your holy grail?
That needs to be brightened up a bit so the folks can properly admire that fine piece of the cutler's craft. Dimitri sure sets his sights high.

Dimitri - I'd send that bad boy to Scott (TripleF) with a hope and a prayer. Knowing Scott in no time he'll have that looking factory fresh!

Re: What is your holy grail?
As many of you know, last year my Holy Grail was delivered (see pictures below) but as it turns out, it wasn't my Holy Grail after all. You see, I'm just the short-term caretaker of this historical piece that will be making it's way on permanent loan to the National Scouting Museum. The Boy Scouts of America plans to move more than a century of Scouting history from Irving Texas to New Mexico, to the Philmont Scout Ranch near the town of Cimarron in northern New Mexico. An expansion of the Philmont Museum and Seton Memorial Library is expected to begin next year to make room for the Boy Scouts' collection, which contains more than 600,000 items — including the nation's largest collection of Norman Rockwell paintings, the first Eagle medal and nearly every uniform in Scouting history.
That said, I have been pondering whether or not to seek a new Holy Grail, the current thinking is....no.

Re: What is your holy grail?
That is definitely a Holy Grail knife Tom. Mine Wis the Remington R4466 I've never seen one in real life. But it's definitely my goal to get one.
Re: What is your holy grail?
The bar shield is pretty nice. Will you open it so we can see how full the blades are? Maybe it will look better open. ___DaveMiller Bro's wrote:This is my latest holy grail knife.
Re: What is your holy grail?
I really haven't been collecting knives long enough to get any "holy grails". I've seen so many great ones since I've been coming to AAPK It's hard to decide. That said I do have lots of grails: a Haskell Minnow, a Mettlach "rugby" stein, a Narragansett indian head bottle opener, a 3 inch Coe's monkey wrench, a Christiansen agate Guinea (that's a marble)... It's nice to have options. I need to mention that I'm married the top of my list.
Thanks

Re: What is your holy grail?
A couple of years ago there was a "unicorn" thread which I believe would equate to "grail". I listed 3 knives at that time. http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... rn#p438332 I have knocked 2 of these off my list, as well as a couple more that I didn't know should have been on my list.
Still looking for the R4466 - I hope I see it before Keith does (lol). And I'm adding the Case Clasp Zippers (5172 & 6172).

Re: What is your holy grail?
Those are some nice ones on your list Jerry. As I read everyone's list there are some amazing knives listed. The quest for that rare knife to go into each of our collection interests me. I think back to when I first started collecting and it was a 6437pu. Interesting how our desires will shift and change in time. Good luck to everyone this next year in finding that special knife

Re: What is your holy grail?
I would be ecstatic to have any 6375LP, but I don't think I could ever spend what it takes for one in excellent condition or better so that's why it's not a grail for me, just too unobtainable. I do keep hoping to find one in decent shape for a cheap at an antique shop or something thoughjlw257 wrote:I've been lucky to find most of my grail knives, but the one I haven't been able to find is a Tested XX WinterBottom 6375LP
