W.R.CASE & SON. MADE IN U.S.A. ?????

Post by espn77 »

I have this office knife. Has all kinds of stamps on it. Pattern #42057 with W.R.CASE & SONS MADE IN U.S.A. on one blade. The other has has the circle with CASE XX TESTED in it. I can identify that stamp in my book but the "made in USA stamp I can't. I'm interested to hear the verdict. Thanks in advance. Keith

Keith that's a cool little knife. Was that one amongst the 275 lying on the basement floor? :D

Lol yes it was Greg. I don't know that it has much value but the stamps I think are pretty cool.

Yes those stamps are the bee's knees. I think that early white composite had a celluloid componet to it. Keep an eye on it.

I thought the presence of "U.S.A." or "Made In U.S.A." were indicative of post 1921 manufacture.

Were some companies doing that prior to the Congressional mandate of 1921?

Charlie what mandate are you referring to? I'm familiar with the 1890 requirement for country of origin on imports to the US and the 1961 and 1998 mandates but not the 1921 mandate.

Sorry, I dis-remembered something I'd read long ago.

It actually said "Made In U.S.A. first used by a few firms in the late 1910's or early 1920's, but uncommon until mid-1960's when it was required on American made knives exported to Canada. Nearly universal on American factory made knives today."

I stand corrected. Sadly, this is not the first time I've sited that 1921 date for that. ::facepalm::

Mr watch 61 was the requirement for made in usa for exports to Canada and 98 was when they declared that a product must have at least 75% American labor and parts to bear made in USA.
