I believe, based on what I've read and heard from Dimitri, that those MB tobacco knives have been counterfeited rather extensively, but I must say, that one looks good to me.

The opinion of a keener and more knowledgeable mind should be forthcoming.

That sucks. :xI had it saved and don't bid until the end.I had a few concerns but hadn't examined it all that closely. If it was right and he took $400 he short changed himself.

What does "Burr Oak Plug" refer to ? a brand of tobacco ?
Charlie do you know approximately when these were made ?
"Extensively faked": have you seen any that were so well done that distinguishing from authentic was difficult ?
Why would someone fuss at you if price gets to $750 ? Are you to blame for high prices ?

I don't know exactly when they were made, but I guesstimate 1920's.

I believe the etches and shields refer to brands of chewing tobacco. Maybe all of them were marketed by the same tobacco company and that company contracted Miller Bros to make the knives.

I have no idea how many different knives were made, but it was more than one or two, I think.

Some folks don't wish to have auctions for desirable knives published on AAPK, as they think that increases the amount of interest and the number of bidders, thereby running the auction price up.

I've been chastised more than once for doing that, so I generally refrain from doing it now.

It is not against Forum rules as long as it's done in the correct forums, i.e., not in Knife Lore.

But, I like to get along with all I can, so I stopped. I will post a nice Robeson in the Robeson Forum, but that's of limited interest, not read by everybody and I want to see a nice one go to someone here, if they have the means.

The only reason I think they have been extensively counterfeited is because someone who would know has told me.

Oh, I send good auctions to people back channel all the time. Sent TJ one yesterday and Dimitri about a half dozen.

I look at every newly added auction in the Pre-1970 Folding Knives category every day.

There are some good things listed right now.

And, if and when I see a good Farmer's Jack, you, Lyle, will be the only person I tell about it.

Charlie, thank you for the answers you provided for every one of my questions. I can understand the desire to not have an auction for a 'special' knife brought to the attention of others. Every now and then a very collectible knife does fly under the radar and a super good deal can be the result.
