Schlieper for Japan

Folks,
I had an interesting conversation with Paladin offline and wanted to share photos of the knife that brought up the discussion. He'll probably shoot me for posting this....I hope he uses the Derringer....love that gun.....

If anyone has additional information on this brand's history, PLEASE add. Photos of other examples would be nice also.

Paladin's research indicates that this is a rare 1960s or 1970s Schlieper Eye made for a company in Japan. The back of the tang has "JAPAN", although I did not provide a photo. One of Paladin's customers though it was a joint venture with Wostenholm (IXL), but Paladin has seen the knife in an early Schlieper catalog and is confident it was a standalone Schlieper effort.

Either way, a really cool brand in case you run across one....

Thanks,
Mark

Did you mean the stamp is rare or this particular knife is rare? The reason I ask is that there are at least two of this company's knives on ebay right now. Both have problems but one is only $10 and the other is $13.

If you will notice those listings, neither seller realized that the listed knife was made by or for, Carl Schlieper and that was the point of my discussion with Mark (Handlewithcare). Many collectors of Eye Brand do not realize that this line of knives by Schlieper even exists.
I did use the term 'rare' when I listed the knife and I probably should have called the brand 'uncommon' as it is the word I prefer over 'rare'. I guess I did it to save space in the title, who knows at this point.
