Folks, please let me know what you think about the age of this knife. It has some old characteristics, but I don't know about the round shield. Also, there is no stamp on the back of one blade, but the back of the second is not pictured, which is also a concern.

Not an Eye expert by any means but neither the plain round shield nor color of the bone is what I would expect on an older Schlieper with the 2 eye blade etch. I am sure someone that knows will come by and comment.

Guys,
This knife is right and dates to about 1984. I'll attach a photo of the twin to this one that is etched TEXAS KNIFE COLLECTORS, 1984. I have been told that the red bone was acquired from Boker and that it went over so well on the Eye Brand knives that Boker refused to sell any more to Schlieper. I believe that 1984 is about the latest one could count on the Eye Brand to be made with the good steel the knives were known for.
As to the plain round shield, it is a bit of a mystery to me. I have considered that it might have been used on 'parts' knives or lunch box type knives. Maybe the plain round shield was the product of some enterprising employee assembling knives in his garage. It did come later in the era that would be considered the end of the old Eyes.
I sure don't have a definitive answer and would welcome any info any of you might have.

I think you are on target Ray. I know TKCA did a lot of club knife business with Schlieper in that time frame. This knife could well have been an over run using the extra red bone and sold without the TCKA club knife additions. I wonder what might be on the backside of that round shield?
