PUMA aging

Post by bkazz5 »

I recently acquired a couple PUMA 675 stockmans. One bone and one stag. They have different blade etches. Can you age these knives based on the blade etch? Sorry for the poor pics.

This is the only information I've been able to find on dating Puma knives. Maybe someone else has something.

Here's another little something, Jerry. May be the same thing stated differently.

The numbers for dating are stamped on the inside liner.

I have that one T.J. along with the two charts at the web site (that chart is also at the web site) but I didn't know if the folding knives had a control number on them and if they did, I didn't know where they put it (thanks Tim).

Thanks for the info and quick response. Can't wait to get home to see if the knives are stamped on the inside liner. Didn't occur to me to look there.

bkazz5 - I hope you have better luck than I did. Dug out the Puma Big Five Stockman set and found no Control Number anywhere on them. :(

However, from one of the other charts I know they were made from 1980-1982 (may have been made an additional year or two but the chart only goes to 1982)

Here's the only puma I own, if I'm going by the puma chart it would be a 1973. Some nice looking puma knives.

Sure enough. On the inside liner of the bone handle was 93574 making it a 1975 and on the liner of the stag was 23872 making it a 1978. Thanks for the help. Puma sure has an odd dating system. Don't see the rhyme and reason in it but once you have the number it is easy enough to refer to the chart.

This is the website I use to date Pumas. Goes up to 2010. Scroll down a bit and you will see it. Matt

They changed the format of the Control Numbers. Thanks for the update.
