Thanks

Welcome aboard! ::tu::
I don't recognize the change stamp either.
Is there a country of origin stamp on the knife anywhere?

The person I bought it off of had only blades from europe most from germany.
I guessing its from europe 40's-60's. he called it a old "Hippekniep messer" here are a few more pic's
Any way it should be fun to restore, and I couldn't go wrong for $6

Sorry I can't help you with the stamp;it's a new one to me.Checked a couple of my references but nothing there.I love the repair they made to the pivot rivet;looks like a nail slipped thru and bent over.Hey whatever works.A proper repair should be fairly easy but I would be tempted to leave it as is and hust put an edge on it.Shows that someone must have cared a lot about it to repair it when it broke.

:lol: :lol: Reminds me of the straight pin I used for several years as a hinge pin for my Zippo lighter. That was a little Red-Neck engineering right there.

The repair that was made years ago is a nail just bent over, the blade has play in it but because of the strong spring it is usable as is, but I dont trust it. the handle is cracked near the pin.

PCwizard,

This might help a little. I saw this knife floating in the bay and it has an identical tang stamp. I think the fact that the stamp is on a Spanish coin could very well point to the location of the maker being from Spain.

The picture of the stamp is clear enough but I still can't decipher what it says/means.

I think the small letters are AYA and the large letters could be F, D, P, J? Mystery logo so far.

I know that's not much of a lead but maybe some direction.

I found someone that has a more modern version of one of these coin knives with a different block letter marking. He informs me the knife is marked IPAYA Inoxidable. Goins lists "IPAYA SPAIN" with no other information.

At this point I think it would be safe to add to Goins' listing "maker of sod buster and coin knives".
