This trapper looks good to me minus the stag. Is it european? Or is it just sambar that is taken from a piece that was more smooth?

Thanks.

I would say European Stag. Check out some stag comparison pictures at this web site. http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/rod/knives/reviews/stag.html

Thanks. Jerry I did and that's the best place I have found that shows it. I was thinking a first generation knife in this configuration was suppose to be sambar. Thats what got me looking. It is a fine knife, just trying to make sure it is or isn't first gen as advertised.

I wish I could go handle every nife I saw. Would probably help lol

Tim (basser5) would know much more about the subject than I because he collects stag handles and German knives almost exclusively and is very knowledgeable on the subject but I believe if you see stag on a German knife, you can almost bet your buttons it's European stag.

Here's a Weidmannshell with European Stag handles. After you look at a few, they start to stand out because the European Stag is just not "gnarly" like the Sambar Stag.
