I have had this large lockback for a while and would like to know if it is a 1st generation knife and approximate year it was made. Is it a calf roper? Thanks for your help.

Tom , have you ever seen a 2nd gen. with stag handles (that is , the old style calf roper with "calf roper" etch) ?

Nice pattern you have there. I own a Hubertus Karbonstahl in stag and they are pretty impressive.

The hafting of the stag is quite different,on the Bulldog it's old style whereas on the Hubertus it looks far more modern.

Bob,
Yes I have seen some of these knives with the calf roper etch. A few I have seen have a kind of brass finish to the bolsters, not sure why. Same pattern and opening mechanism though so they are out there. Seen as many of them as the 1st generation knives I would say. Some in this pattern have some play in the blades which is unusual for bulldogs. All seem to have great stag, even the 2nd generation knives.
Most times I have seen the 2nd generation knives they describe them as 1st generation, wrong of course.
