As much use and abuse as it appears to have suffered, I am surprised the handles are not cracked.
Nice find, now if you can find one with a good master blade you could put then together.

I really like the steel in those. According to what Tom Williams told me, the Sword Brand stamp was mostly discontinued after WWII and the Sword Brand was etched after that. From that I would think yours was made prior to about 1946.

i almost did not buy it due to the blades...

the knife was froze closed...full of pocketlint and tar...yeck...took me a couple of hours to get it to open...

the blades almost look stock...but that can not be...

the clip holds a four line tang stamp...

Here's a nice little Sword Brand I picked up this past weekend. The pen blade has a 4 line Camillus tang stamp, the spear blade has the sword brand stamp. Great blade snap, just a nice knife all the way around. Bull

I understand that the Sword Brand knives were Camillus' higher quality knives, where does "Silver Sword" fit in?

The "Silver Sword" series was started in 1982. I have two knives from this series.

The Sword Brand etch was used on some pre WW2 knives. I've got a early 4 line that's etched.

When you asked this question Tom, I added it to my list of questions for Tom Williams.

I talked to Tom on the phone today and asked him when the "Silver Sword" brand was introduced.
Tom said it was introduced about 1979.

Tom will be back on AAPK before too long. I helped him with a reset password today as he couldn't get logged in.
We are hoping to have some in depth conversations after the first of the year when we both have more time.

I have a Hiker. At 2-5/8" closed, it's a tiny little thing. Introduced in the late '60s or early '70s as part of the Prestige Line, the name was later changed to "Woodcarver". Discontinued about 1983, this pattern was only made for 10-15 years.

And a '41-'46 Whittler (Thanks to Carrmillus)

I would have sworn I have another but can't find the picture or remember what it is.

A good many of my 4 lines have the 4 line stamp on the pile side tang & Sword Brand stamped on the mark side.
It helps to remember that the Sword Brand stamp meant that that was the top of the line for Camillus. Sword Brand was the name brand and Camillus was the company that made them.

This is a Camillus Streamline celluloid jack of mine- A hawkbill from my collection- From ebay- This is from a 4 line Tip Top Barlow-
I think the first pic & the forth pic have the same Sword Brand stamps. The Streamline Brand was introduced sometime in the 1930 according to Tom Williams. So I would place those two knives between 1930-1946, but I think the other two stamps are before 1930.

I wonder how many variations of the Sword Brand stamp (not etch) we can find & document?

I'd like to see just one stamped (not etched)on the blade,not the tang .

I have not seen a Sword Brand with "Sword Brand" stamped on the blade.

This is the only Sword Brand model I have seen with a name stamped on the blade.

Dale you can make out the stamped(maybe) D in Brand pretty easy and then looking backwards see the remains of the crossed swords and Sword stampings(maybe).It is the knife on top.It's better in the right light.


In one of your posts( I think),but I did read somewhere Tom states that the stamped Sword Brand on the blade was used for a short time from 1906,then they switched to all etches and stamping the tang.

I changed my post Dale to allow a firm maybe on the SWORD BRAND® on the blade. It does appear to be a stamped D,although I can't feel any indentation? Sorry for the confusion.

It was from notes I made on a phone interview with Tom.
I have posted it elsewhere but what Tom said was: "Prior to World War II Sword Brand was stamped on the Sword Brand knives. After the war most of the Sword Brand knives had the Sword Brand etched on the blade instead of stamp on the tang."

What I understood him to say prior to WW II they were stamped Sword Brand on the tang and after WW II they were etched. I cannot recall seeing another blade (aside from the one you just posted) that was stamped on the blade with the Sword Brand name.
