German Eye Small Congress

Hi to all.
I just picked up this nice German Eye Small Congress from Deadwood Knives (my first transaction with Deadwood, BTW---good price, fast ship, and excellent CS):
http://www.deadwoodknives.com/p-2803-co ... knife.aspx It is listed as having carbon steel, but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the carbon steel GE uses. I'm not complaining, but this seems almost stainless in how it resists a patina.
Thanks for any info.
Andrew

I have purchased many knives from Deadwood and was always pleased. They have another store also but cant remember the name at the moment. Same owner just different name and I believe they charge a dollar more to ship items?? Great service though.

Gino, I believe the sister store is Digital Freaks (which seems like an odd name for a knife vendor):

BTW, maybe I didn't do a very thorough search, but I couldn't find a manufacturer's website for German Eye. Doeas anyone happen to have a link?
Thanks,
Andrew

AJF,
This is a link of the translated Schlieper page (from Google):
http://translate.google.com/translate?h ... rmd%3Divns
I hope it works for you. There isn't a ton of information on it, and the translation leaves a little to be desired.
BTW, Eye Brand knives are currently made in both carbon steel and stainless.
My Eye half congress has accidently gone through the washing machine at least twice, and only has a couple of spots on it. I've been carrying it mostly as my EDC for about 5 years, and the blades still look good. I don't do a lot of heavy work with it, but it opens boxes, cuts strings, etc. It has a little patina on it now, but occasionally I wipe it down with simichrome to clean it up.
I agree that it seems to resist staining much better than some other carbon steel, but I'm not sure what the difference is.
I think it takes longer to get a good edge on a newer Eye Brand knife that one of the older Eyes.
Good luck with your new Eye, I'm sure you will like it.

Thanks, Keith. Lots of good Eye info. in your post.
Is the half congress a "new Eye" or an "old Eye"?
I have a decent edge on mine, but not a great edge. I'll be working more to try for the latter.
I really like the looks and feel of this knife, but it is pretty small. Nice to know it's served you well for 5 yrs. as an EDC.
Regards,
Andrew

AJF,
Mine is a newer model. I do have an older 3-eye (eye over Germany tang stamp) half congress, but I can't bring myself to carry it.
