23L Goes Camping/Fishing

I decided to take my new primitive bone 23L camping with me this year on my annual spring trout fishing adventure! She came through an 8 day trip with flying colors! Besides trimming fingernails, cutting fishing line, picking out wood slivers, and the usual rope cutting, she also came in handy fixing a broken ground wire on the boat trailer.
Here are a few other tasks she was responsible for:
Cutting small tinder for fire making;
Preparing meals;
Cleaning trout;
Whittlin’;
OK, I used some carving tools.
Shavin’;
I finished with a safety razor; I don't have a death wish.
And how did I carry it?
She developed a little patina by the end of the week.
I never touched it to a stone the entire week, but I did strop it a few licks on a leather strop with compound on it every other day.

That's outstanding Barry, those Bullard sheath's are to only way to pack a 23...
BTW did you shave before or after you cleaned the fish....

Nice post Barry. I really like that knife and it looks like you gave it a good workout. Even shaved with it. That's something I never thought of trying.

Thanks for the comments, guys! It was another great fishing trip. The lake is about 10 miles, as the crow flies, from Canada, and it's some beautiful country. The camping was great, except for;
the crowds:
the view:
the fishing:
the food:
the water was high, so the boat was practically in camp:
the weather:
and the dog constantly barking at the fish!
I'll tell ya, fellas, don't go there!

Did you find the lock necessary in the 23 during actual use, was it a nice to have, or do you think you coulda done without it?

I don't think the lock is necessary at all; I just like the liner locks for the extra feature. I go either way for locking or non-locking. I like the lockbacks too.

Joe, the temp was jus' right... too cold for the mosquitos!!! Well, not entirely. Shootin' irons were a Ruger Single Six and an old model 3 screw 41 Mag. Din' need 'em tho.

Yeah, I did. Actually made 'em a long time ago for another pistol. The grip frame is also off another gun so I still have all the original parts, including stocks.

Awesome... just awesome.
I love seeing GEC knives at work, and this GEC looks like it had a great time too.
That #23L looks good to me, like it was born for a trip like that.

Thanks again, guys! It's a great trip, but exhausting! I try and do it once a year, then put the slide show picts on my screen saver to get me through to next time!
