Been some time since I had anything to say :wink: Here I am again:

This is a Machenbach from Solingen germany.
According to the information I have it was only made one single year; 1910. If that is correct it ought to be a rather rare knife. Perhaps someone else have more info about that...

I don´t think I´ve seen so much nicer pearl than on this knife. The condtion is very good, looks like it is unused. It´s 82 mm long. I can sit for a long time and just look att the play of colors in it, like it had an inner glow that is hard to show on pictures.

That is a beautiful knife. ::drool:: I would be most happy to add it to my collection.

The pattern is fairly typical of early-mid 1900 German construction. For example, Bruckmann made lots of variations of that knife. In my opinion, those are replacement scales. Abalone is native to California and Australia mostly. It would not be original material on a 1910 German knife. The liner behind the corkscrew is brass but the pins are bright shiny nickel. Another sign of replacement. That said, someone has done very nice work and it is a great looking knife. Just my 2p :D s-k

Thanks for your comments.
Yes s-k, that makes sence. The liners are brass and the pins are nickel so it could very well be that they are replaced.

That is a beautiful knife! ::drool:: ::drool:: I believe the abalone in the handles is Red Abalone (Haliotis rufescens) from either California or Mexico because of the colors I see.

At that time frame abalone was mainly eaten by Japanese and Chinese peoples along with Native Americans. Americans looked down upon the abalone and the people that ate them at that time. Hard to believe but now sliced and tenderized abalone meat sells for around $140.00 per LB. :shock: :shock:

Thanks for sharing! ::tu:: ::tu::

I have to agree with Jim, that is some awesome pearl there. If I had that knife, I'd be the one with the "inner glow". :mrgreen: You've got a real beauty there. ::tu::
