Heard this Robert Earl Keen classic on radio today, reminded me to share it here. Not sure if anyone has posted it here before, but it's that time of year. Merry Christmas everybody!

The last and only vacation alone me and Loretta took we saw George. Waylan( I think) said it best,"if we could all sing like we wanted to,we'd all sound like George Jones."

I'm not in South Carolina. But yeh, the dimlibs are still trying to erase the history and heritage of the South. I pray that the South doesn't let this happen. :x

First the Hagg, now Guy Clark! ::uc:: One of the best songwriters ever, a masterful storyteller, and a much underrated entertainer. http://www.tennessean.com/story/enterta ... /80932338/

His song "The Randall Knife" has been posted before on AAPK, but if you haven't heard it, it's worth a listen. In the story I posted above is an interview with Vince Gill, talking about how he broke down and cried the first time the heard it.

Jerry, I hadn't heard that song before, it's kinda' touching.
Listening to it, brought back a memory from the past. Back in the early 70's when we still lived in central Florida, I worked for Orange County Pollution Control Dept. Best job I ever had, field technician collecting water samples in most all the lakes in Orange County. This was accomplished with airboats, special work boats and 4 wheel drive pickups, what a job for a young redneck! Also had a St.Johns River run from state road 46 in Sanford, Seminole County up river (which is south) to Us 192 just west of Melbourne in southern Brevard County, quit a run to make in a regular work day, gathering water sample at designated points along the way.
All that to say, on day Pollution Control received a call about a fish kill on a small pond that was apparently on the Randall Knife property. I went with the Field Supervisor to gather the water samples and was introduced to Mr. Bo Randall. We got to take a peek in the shop and my supervisor ended up getting the promise of a Randall knife (a "perk", so to speak). We moved to the Panhandle near the end of '73 and my field boss was still waitin' for his knife, never knew if he got it.

A couple of my favorites from Guy Clark....

Desperados waiting for a train has always reminded me of my Uncle Pete. He was a crusty old West Texas Cowboy.....I inherited a small pile of guns and knives - and a lot of wisdom - from him.

Thanks Unk. Desperadoes Waiting For A Train is a personal favorite (along with about 8 gazillion other songs) but I had never heard Tornado Time In Texas. He speaks God's own truth in all his songs.
