Mike, what a wonderful old knife!!
I know it's been on your radar for a long time.

I don't expect that we will ever know the whole story about that knife, but I suspect it was made about the same
time as the other Cattaraugus display knives created for the Pan Am Expo. The back of the blade is very similar to the large knife
Pat is holding.

Well done on getting it!

Derek

JKB, great knives and love the boxes too!!

Thanks guys for the comments on the knife.

Derek, I agree with you about when the knife was probably made. I always thought the man I bought the knife from in LV was the person who found it but he sent a note with the knife that and explains more about it. I am not going to mention the peoples names that were involved since that would not be right since they know nothing of this site etc. The knife was found inside a boarded up window after the fire and sold to attorney in LV, that was in 1985. It was then purchased by the man I bought it from in 1988. The location was in the shipping room of the Opera house which was on the ground floor.

Below is a picture of the Opera house after the fire in 1985.

Scarce Catco 1-blade bullet style. I took the time earlier this year to clean up this knife for a friend of mine(took me nearly 4-days all day long). He wanted it cleaned up but not overly done, I took my time on it & did it all by hand for him. It turned out very well in my opinion. It will likely be the LAST knife that I do for a VERY long time. I found out that I take too long on ANY cleanings & its not worth the time that I personally put into them, No one seems to appreciates QUALITY work anymore & if they do appreciate it, No one wants to pay a decent wage for compensation.
Kindest Regards,
Mark

I haven't had anything to post for a while now but I did get this Catt. from Derek via an introduction from Mike (Galvanic.) Great looking bone and quite the knife overall. I really like the swedges.

Beautiful knives!

It's such a shame AAPK doesn't have a "Brand Specific" forum for this great old brand. Cattaraugus was one of the seminal American knife manufacturers, a maker of cutlery of highest quality. Yet there are brand specific forums for IMHO much lesser brands (some having fewer posts than this single Cattaraugus thread alone). ::shrug::

Why is there no Cattaraugus forum?

That’s a stunner Mike ::tu:: ::tu:: ...

Ken - I have to agree about certain knife brands that have a subforum and don’t disagree about Cattauraugus - personally I can think of a few subforums which would be nice to have (including a subforum devoted to Sheffield and a few CT/MA makers) and I think they would have more interest than at least a handful of existing subforums which get little activity ... a new subforum was made for Winchester which is nice but my other concern is that all discussed on Winchester before under Knife Lore is lost or not easily found now... I guess in the end when does one draw the line on subforums to include? ... I think there are a few subforums which would not necessarily be missed if some had to be cut to make room... just my opinion...

I agree but somehow new subforum get created anyway. I first requested a Catt subforum a couple of years ago, to no avail. There have been several new subforums created since then. When the one for "Sharpening" was created several old threads from other places were moved to it. Finding posts on Cattaraugus (or any other brand) requires using the search function but having a dedicated subforum helps.

Years ago when I first joined AAPK I was surprised to see there was no dedicated Cattaraugus subform. And I'm surprised whenever a new one is created but still no Cattaraugus.

Easy for me to say. I appreciate all that the admins and moderators do!
