So I am at this dog show in Delaware, OH yesterday. It was at the fairgrounds. They had a small flea market near the show so I convinced my wife that I needed to go. Good thing I did. It had more knives that most of the places I visit. I wandered through the cold and fog and found a table with a couple of old knives. I asked to see this one. The owners says, "now that's a nice bone handled knife!" I keep my mouth shut. It then says "that's a button hook for shoes you know" I keep my mouth shut. I look it over, no cracks, still some snap but not perfect, blade ground some. Hook was perfect. OK I says, how much. ummmmmm!!!!!!!! I gotta have ten bucks for it.
I just didn't have the heart. I says sir, this is a nice example of a late 19th century ladies knife. It isn't bone, its Ivory and that's not a button hook, its a glove hook. OH my you seem to know a little about knives I take it? Nope just enough to be dangerous. I will give you $20 for it. Of course he was thrilled. I felt good about it and so did he. First time I every gave a person more than they asked.
I bet plenty of you would have paid way more than that for it too.
It was a good day.
Water-Ville late 1800's to 1913,
Upon closer look, I found a jeweler had encraved in long hand the owners name
EMMA
How cool is that?

HI Brett,
Thanks, yeah that was a great surprise when I got in in my hands! Also the thing that I really like about it other than the heft and snap is the great swedge on that Master blade! I wish pen blade had less wear and that the handle was in a little better condition though(a couple shallow surface cracks).....just a little better shape and she would really be a "looker"!

Maybe the original owner was proud of those good looking grinds too, and preserved that blade by using the secondary anytime he could?

and use the master blade less often.

WOW!!!
What a nice knife. Crisp, clean stamps.
Your fortunate to have such a hard to find knife. And in such great shape with lots of blade left.
How long is the knife and how is the action on it?

Thanks! The closed length of the knife is 3 1/4". Action is great on both blades. Nice half stops and strong snap. I am quite fond of it. I really didnt know anything about it when I bought it. I have become friends with a knife dealer in my area and he sold me a lot of five knives for $100 and this knife was in it. The other four alone with more than cover the investment but I am planning on keeping this one.

Glad it is as nice as it looked in the photos... I almost went for it but another knife came up that was unexpected at my local shop which I couldn't pass up

. Glad you got it! I'll keep looking for a Waterville knife for the old collection - hopefully I'll get as lucky as you!

Thank you, Lee.
The Watervilles and other old brands have so much to offer. Good luck in your search.
I hope you find what you want.
