That chest of drawers is slick. Did you purchase that or make it yourself? How many drawers are in it and approximately how many knives does it hold? Dimensions??

Just something I knocked together. There are eight drawers about 7 1/2 inches by 17 inches inside dimension, and they hold about 22 knives per drawer, depending on knife size and how close you pack 'em. They are actually 4 separate units that fit inside the shelves in the safe. It makes 'em easy to fondle when I just have a minute or two.

Wow! Those are some awesome knives shown on this link, really superb! I especially like the mammoth ivories that Welderbob and Sauconian showed. Beautiful work by Darksev as well. Just a pleasure to look at everyone's favorites! The 73 and 23 patterns are great. Here's another pattern I like.

how can we get a better description of this cabinet? I would love to make one, what do you have on the inside holding the drawers???

The drawers are really simple. They are 4 units, each about 8x8x18 inches. They are simply a 5 sided box with the front left open. The back fits inside the other sides. This gives you some shear strength. Before assembling the box, use your tablesaw to cut two 3/16" longetudial grooves into each side. These will be your drawer guides. Then, cut two bottoms out of 1/8 inch tempered masonite. Size these so they will slide in and out of the slots you cut in the sides. Cut some small sides and glue and pin to the bottoms. Voila! Maybe I can post some picts later if you want. Good Luck and mind your fingers!

Here's a couple picts of how the boxes are constructed. The rabbeted joint in the box corners help to give the unit more strength. I built my shelves from scrap wood, only buying the masonite.

Thanks Jack. If I still had my shop, I'd be out there making sawdust as we speak. Unfortunately, when I sold the house, the shop went with it and most of my floor tools didn't make the move either. I still have the table saw but it's been through two "hundred year" floods since I moved here and needs to be disassembled, cleaned and reassembled. Maybe I'll get the ambition this coming summer.

In the meantime, I'll keep your design in the back of my head. I like it a lot. Simple, easy and functional.

Hey johnnierotten, do you know of a dealer that has one of the leaf scribed handle GEC's available? Thanks for any info.

Here's mine so far. The top #23 Pioneer is a liner lock. The Toothpick and NF Snakewood Jack are EDC's.

I like all mine, but this matched set of bannana peel single blade trappers with matched numbers #03 are definately in my top 5 favs

Them are SWEET! Kinda like Sod Busters but MUCH prettier!

Nice set there Kaleb.. ..I think these are kinda neat, spiral buffalo horn...both are Northfield's,
the black horn has a satin finish blade and the red horn has a polished blade...I wonder why that is...

I pulled out one of my primitive bones. It's hard to pick a fave. Choose this one cause I like the 23 pattern.

Yes, easternknives, that is a good & plenty #23M. I had my eye on that beauty for about a year! It's #30 and I purchased it from JRE online. I love the 23 because they'll feel good in your hand. (Although I still don't carry mine) Right now I'm really interested in the GEC stockmen.

I like the primitive bone too, and the spiral buffalo horn is also sweet, I don't have any of those yet. But I do have one primitive bone #73.
And a bulldog #53M in beautifully matched stag

That last one is a PIP! Even with Clip blades!

I'm not much of a fan of acrylic, but that Cuban Stockman in Lava Lamp Acrylic is absolutely gorgeous! The only thing holding me up from getting an Easy Open Jack is I wish they were 3 3\4 inches or more. You've got a great bunch of knives.

The Lava Lamp Stockman, my Case Yellow Mini Trapper and a customized Green Canvas Micarta Trapper are my only synthetic handled knives. I'm not normally into synthetics particularly swirly acrylic handles, but the Lava Lamp was stunning, so I had to have one. I agree that GEC needs some models in the 3.75" range. Lots of people seem to want them. Unfortunately they decided a 4" Melon Tester/Whittler was a better idea.

Yeah, I know what you mean about the 4" Melon Tester/Whittler. Even though I have one and like the way it feels, it is an unusual size because of the "thinness" of the frame.

Having said this, since I love the older patterns, I had to have one, but I'll never carry it. A knife I really admire is the Hen & Rooster Cattle Knife stockman. It's 4 1\4 inches and has a thick frame like your Lava stockman. And for the price, if you can find one, the stag is a nice value.

A GEC swell end jack knife with a clip master and pen secondary, or a spear point master and a pen secondary in the 3 3/4 inch size would be a nice one to have. Kind of like the Case 31 1/2 or 99 1/2 pattern knives that aren't offered by Case anymore. The medium swell center coke bottle like S&M offers in a 3 3/4 inch size would be nice also. With all the different handle materials offered by GEC they would be a good sellers for sure. I just can't get into the 3 inch barlows and EZ open knives GEC offers now. They are quality built but they are just too small for my hands to be of any use for me. 3 3/4 inches and larger are more my size to use comfortably.

My wife got me this for Christmas. I only have four GEC knives so far, but this is definitely my favorite.
