One I like, although I must admit, you might have to be a Dylan fan.(I like his lyrics in several of his songs. He has recorded at least two albums also gospelly inclined)"Shot of Love" and "Saved".

I must also say, the song sounds best when Ralph is singing harmony! I had a CD by Ralph(can't find) that had him and various artists singing together, this was on it.

"Lonesome River",1st track in the listing.

Here's one that popped into my head, for no apparent reason, that I just can't get rid of. Marty Robbins "Singing the Blues". Probably 1950's

Oh Lord, where did that come from. I haven't heard or thought of that song in years. Thanks for carrying me back to the '50s with that #1 chart topper.

Marty Robbins had another hit about the same time, "A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation" Along with "Singing the Blues" these were the roots of Rock n Roll.

Marty Robbins was truly one of the greats. I'd also include Carl Perkins as one of the original rockers.

Griz

Without a doubt, Griz. His big hit was a hit for another early rocker from Memphis.

Here I was, sitting here listening to Hoyt Axton sing 'Poncho and Lefty' for the umptee umpth time on YouTube

and reading the comments when I saw where someone had recommended Mary McCaslin and Jim Ringer's rendition of 'Geronimo's Cadillac'

I had never heard of them or the song, so there went a chicken and I was off. Stumbled on to this favorite of mine, which I had only heard The Statler Brothers and Waylon Jennings do (I lead a sheltered life). Thought y'all might like their version.

Though it never was a chart smasher for him, The Gentle Giant, Don Williams was first to record "Amanda" and remained a very popular song for him.

Excellent Jerry. ::tu:: That's very, very, very early Johnson Mountain Boys ::nod:: JMB are broken up now and the lead singer/guitar player, Dudley Connell is now part of the Seldom Scene.

Had never heard of the Johnson Mountain Boys before. Very good.

Followed the squirrel and ran onto The Gospel Plowboys. Good group. Only thing wrong with them is their videos are not studio quality and the echo is annoying.

I couldn't remember hearing "el Condor Pasa" until I looked it up on YouTube. I do remember the melody.........Now. As far as chasing Leo Kottke, well, what you need to do is pick up the guitar and try to be a little better tomorrow than you were today.

Can't say 100% sure, but it sounds like he's playing in an open tuning. That's how he can get a melody line on the high strings and still play some rythem and lead lines on the low strings and it sounds like a couple guitars playing at the same time.

I saw and listened to the S&G version, but I wanted a cleaner melody.
