In my case, it is my Uncle Pete - he was an old cowboy from West Texas. He kind of took me under his wing when I was a young man. He taught me to play dominos.....and I inherited most of my guns and a few knives from him. He drank himself to death when I was in High School......like a Desparado Waiting for a Train.

Jerry Douglas has an other-worldly talent on that dobro. It really "makes" the sound of Alison's music. But for that matter, all of the Union Station guys are crazy talented......not to mention Alison herself. They're about as good as music gets, in my opinion.

As a side note, even after living here for more than 46 years, I still don't consider this "home". Though I was born in and went to most of my grade school years in Evansville Indiana, I consider White County Illinois "home".

Good one Unk Del McCoury is one of my all time favorites. The first guitar lick I ever learned I stole from Del, he was with Bill Monroe at the time, the song was "Roll on Buddy, Roll on" Saw Del at the American Legion Hall in Franklin, Ohio along with Paul "Moon" Mullins and Traditional Grass. After they'd both finished their sets, about 11 PM, another great got up with Del and his band and the Traditional Grass, Red Allen. The show went on till after midnight. Great, wonderful, All-Star jam session for over an hour. Red Allen passed away shortly after that. Paul Mullins is gone too

Here are my two favorite Bluegrass songs. I once heard Bluegrass summed up this way. Bluegrass music makes you long for places you've never seen and miss people you've never met. Both of these songs hit the mark for me.
