So do you think this is a Schrade made Craftsman or made by Camillus?
It is 4 inches and looks like a 8OT except for the swedge.

Dale do you have this knife? Is the handles Black?
The main blade looks like a Camillus blade; the match-strike is smaller than the early Schrade.
The shield looks like the Covered Wagon Schrade. However, it is a pore fit in the handle.

Below is a Buck 301 made by Cumillius.
The 301 with the white back ground is a Schrade made Buck.
Note: The shield on your knife, is much like the Buck 301 shape.

I do have it Ken.
The frame is the same size as the 8OT, but Camillus also made 8OTs for Schrade at least in 1986 and probably other times as well, (see S card below).
Here are four 8OT variants compared to the Craftsman in question. The top one is a Primble’s Old Timer #935.
The second is Primble’s #5371, basically a Schrade #881 with a Primble shield, stamp & blade etch.
The third is a Craftsman Old Crafty. No mystery as to who made it.
The forth is an 8OT from a blue striped box, circa 2001-2002.
Of course the fifth is the Craftsman probably from Camillus, although I suppose it is possible that Camillus made the blades for Schrade and Schrade assembled the knives.

I know Camillus made 30,000 blades of each style for Schrade for the 8OT & 34OT. That was also in 1986.


Regardless of whoever assembled the knife in question, that blade definitely seems to have some Camillus DNA in it!

Dale, re: the first two Buck 301s Camillus made;
The first one has 3 brass spacers, and the second one has an extra brass spacers.
There is two spacers next to the sheep-foot blade on one side.
They also have smaller rivets then the Schrade knives, on the outside to hold the handles on.

I have 3 of the 935 Old Timers; this is the envelope one of them came in, back in 1971.
It has the seller’s name and the price ($4.57) at the time.

Interesting stuff. Dale, what does the etch on the Craftsman clip say? Can only make out the word "EDGE".

That pattern was made from 1979 to 1985 and the controlling interest of Imperial passed to Albert Baer about 1983, as I recall.
It that was one of the last patterns produced. The Frontier series was discontinued in 1985, (which only makes sense), as the Frontier Series is direct competition with the Old Timer knives and Uncle Henry lines; probably at a lower price point. Once Albert Baer controlled Imperial the Frontier Series was dead! No new patterns were introduced after Albert took over, and the Frontier Series would have died probably sooner, in my opinion, except they wanted to sell off the back stock knives.

To address your question directly Ken; I am guessing, without examples in hands, but I think your blade was one of the earlier ones made in 1979, or shortly there after, at the Imperial factory. The Imperial stamp on the pile side tang does not look to me like something Schrade would do. The knife may have been assembled later at a different factory, but I think it is an earlier one made at Imperial and probably assembled there as well, as far as I tell from the picture.
