That Kershaw Jeep LFK1700 is somethin' fiercely sharp my brother. Watch out!

I hear ya Scott. I'm not much on thumb-stud openers and am clumsy at best when trying to use them. This knife is small and combined with the scary sharp blade, thumb-stud opening and my big ole ham-hock hands it makes for a dangerous situation. I bought two and gave the other one to my buddy but this one went in the safe to keep the safe queens company. I like the knife but even at six bucks, I'll never carry it.

Just picked up a Leek yesterday.. Black and blue handles.. This thing is way past scary sharp!! I think that it will shave shaved hair!!! And the point on the end is sharper that a needle!! John

What's with the veggies?

I have an old old Kershaw "set" - a handle, plastic roll with 5 or 6 interchangeable blades. The whole thing is zipped (zipper gone) up in a long wallet. I left the set in a storage closet in our casa down on the Baja and that set along with my old Case Folding Hunter (in his leather scabbard with the marlin spike) suffered some degradation from the salt air. Several years ago I made a Flea market pick up - - another partial set with a rosewood handle. I think the stuff was made in Japan and in those years Japanese stuff wasn't looked on as high quality. If it interests any one I'll dig it out and take a pic or two.

Does having this for about 30 years make me a Kershaw fan?

P.S. Dug them out . . Kershaw Blade Trader The little raised "X" is real tight on the opening in each blade. Curious huh?

I've had this boot knife for quite some time (love Boot knives) ...its not marked at all....but is to good of quality to be a cheapie..
Looks a lot like the Trooper to me......any thoughts?
I mean I know its not a Trooper...but I still believe it to be a Kershaw...

Here are a couple of my EDCs from the 1980s-
The #5200 was a very early model one of the first Kershaws I ever saw.
The DWO came out in the early 1980s, IITC. It originally had a black cover that wore out (note the blade wear) and Kershaw gave me a new blue cover as they were out of black at that time. The DWO logged a lot of pocket time.
This is the first version of the Kershaw Black Horse. As I recall it came out in the mid 1980s. For years this was my hunting, fishing, wood cutting and general all around whatever knife. It still holds a razor edge. I am not sure, but I believe these were AUS8A steel instead of the AUS6 they use now.
A couple Black Gulch, model #3120, one with partial serrations. About 4” closed.
I still have more Kershaws. I have to get some pics or scans and put them on here as well.
IMO Kershaw makes one of the best non-traditional user knives on the market today. The price is reasonable and the quality of their USA and Japanese made knives are first rate.

I know in recent years they opened a factory in China……I don’t knowingly own any of those so I can’t speak to their quality, but I doubt it is as good as their other knives. At least they do put the country of origin on the knife and they list the country of origin on their price sheets.

Do you have a Gerber MK-1? I included the number on the back of the blade but have no clue how to interpret it.

I don't own one at the time.....but have owned several over the years.

That is the one thing O really do not like about Kershaw; they opened a factory in China.
But they make all the assisted openers in Oregon (or they have so far).
I guess that is about a push.

This is the DWO III with partial serrations. These big agressive serrations make it a real good rope or strap cutter.

Stainless. It is a good size heavy duty knife, 4-3/8" (closed).

I know at some point Kershaw changed the steel in these to AUS-6A.
Mine has the older tang stamps. I believe it is AUS-8A steel; far better IMHO than the AUS-6A. AUS-8A has more carbon than the AUS-6A.

For those with a sense of humor:

I am a fan of the 1660 Leek models and have one as an EDC (as well as several different models I picked up along the way). Some while back I bought a point of sale Kershaw display, as I was curious as to whether the blade was a dummy or real. As it turned out, the display knife was a production unit with the edge removed.

Knowing that my father-in-law and several close friends will enjoy the irony of the marking and the “hey, check this out” factor of these resharpened demo knives, I procured a few more as gifts. Though the resharpened blades are only 96% or so of the original size they are sure to be a big hit with them.

Here's a few.I have more but my doc file is a bit messed up at the moment and a lot of my pictures I can't bring up.

Here is a work in progress, a Kershaw Wild Turkey #4150.
When my hands are bothering me enough I don’t trust them to work on a knife for someone else, I mess with my own knives, (bare heads are easier to work on too).
The handles on this are stabilized Musk Ox horn. I think they make interesting handles.
