All parts and assembly done on site and can be viewed with a tour.

I hope you all realize that there is a buisness practice created and followed many many years ago that is still followed today making this list impossible to verify as accurate. You may never know for sure WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife.

Winchester- All Models produced by Queen in Titusville, PA / Most Models Sold by Blue Grass Cutlery / Owned by Olin Corp.

I am confused ... ::doh:: I thought Winchester knives were made in China or Japan!

A lot of Winchester knives are made in China, but not all of them. I understand your confusion. The same situation currently exist with some other brands as well, namely a Remington and Buck. Part of their knives are made in the U.S.A. and part of them are made in China. Boker does much the same thing, producing some knives still in Germany and some in China. At least they have created a separate brand name for their China made line, calling them "Magnum" knives.
All that does make it confusing for the buyer, and I'm not so sure that is by accident on the part of the knife companies.

What about leatherman knives? I didnt even know they made pocket knives, until I seen one at wally world. Of course I bought it, seems kinda cheaply made. I guess thats wally world for ya. It doesnt say where its made, packaging just says Intended for sale in USA.

philco wrote:Another one to add to the list is Robeson (Suredge and Mastercraft) My understanding is that the brand is now property of Smoky Mountain Knife Works and that the knives currently are produced under contract by Queen.
From what I can recall of my knife history (and Charlie Noyes would know better than me), I think Ontario Knife (now owned by Queen) acquired the rights to the Robeson name and (I assume) their brands SurEdge and Mastercraft.

Thanks guys!

This is great information. You have answered several ongoing questions that I have had over the past couple of years.

So, if you buy a mainstream German knife, it will come from Boker's factory or Olbertz, that's interesting.

There are still quite a few German Kissing Cranes floating around. Any idea who made them? From what I understand they had been outsourced to other German makers for years since the Klass facility closed. I've been carrying a stag copperhead for a while, and its been great.

What about Henckels? I know they are no longer being produced, but they look very much like Bokers.

Thanks again!
Keith

Leatherman makes pocket knives as well as multi-tools and all their production is from their plant in Oregon.

That accusation was made here on AAPK about a year ago. The owner of the company responded and plainly stated that this is not true. There was nothing vague our elusive in the way he responded to that FALSE RUMOR.

Here is a link to the thread containing that owner's response.........

I know this is kind of an old thread but, I was always under the impression that GEC made all their stuff in house from the very beginning, with nothing to do with Queen. From what I've heard, Queen and GEC have a no fly zone for each other. But that's just talk and we all know how easy rumors get started.
Wasn't it Canal Street that had Queen to make some of their parts in the very beginning but final Assembly and finish was done by Canal Street?
Also, in the O.P. it states that all models of Browning were China made, there were some Browning knives stamped USA that were made by Queen, I believe.
Does anyone remember some Smith & Wesson marked knives that were USA made? I haven't a clue as to who made them.
I did see a Fox-N-Hound damascus steel fixed blade knife blank without a handle for sale in a SMKW catalog that had Pakistan stamped where the handle would cover it up.
The John Primble knives are really confusing. It's been said that Boker, Camillus, and Schrade USA made knives in the 70' & 80's with that name, then throw in the re pro's that Parker had made and it stirs the pot even more. ::dang::
Marbles is listed in the O.P. as all models having been made in China but, there were those made by Queen in early 2000 to around 2003.
Schrade-Taylor LLC. did have some knives made in the USA. GEC, Camillus, and Bear & Son made some, and I have heard that Utica made some knives for Taylor with the Schrade name. I think everything else Taylor has made is China made. ::barf::
There was some Winchester knives made in Germany. I still don't know if they were authorized and legal.
As someone has already said on this thread, figuring out who made what for who seems to be like Abbott & Costello's who's on first gag. ::doh:: Will anyone really ever know the complete truth? ::shrug::

Great thread. It seems like Smoky Mountain Knife Works is responsible for using many of the classic old made in the USA brands and turning them into cheap Chinese knives. What a shame they can cash in on the names built over so many years by American workers. :(

Does anyone have any updates or changes to make?

Denny, both the Boker Plus and Magnum are being made in China and Tiawan now. I guess it just depends on the model. I know the Boker Plus Fiskmuk is made in China.
