Iron Hoarder and Johnierotten, thanks for the kind words. I didn't realize until I looked at my post that all three knives had the acorn shields, just a coincidence. If you look at the 5th page of this thread you will see a R3243 that is in really good shape (it's a bone handled version of my R3245) on that knife you can really get a good impression of how heavy the saber clip blade was on these knives.

Slimpickens, that's a pretty good start on a Remington collection, every one of those knives is a keeper.

Thanks msteele6, I love old remingtons and even though the two whittlers wiped out my budget at the time, I don't regret it. Slim.

Ain't she sweet? Do you know anything about this knife. The etching seems to be really new. It may have been re-etched, don't you think?

This one has five rivets. I noticed the newer ones have three. Do you know anything about this?

This is a 1990,release,with ""five pins""_____R1306SB,Silver Bullet, with "Bone Scales",instead of Delrin ( notice no lanyard tube??)___I think most of the newer knives were made by Camillus and most had Delrin scales__your knife looks like Stag ??, In the 1970's,Bowen Knife Company of ,Atlanta,Ga.,had the rights to make these knives and were making some stag scale knives __ but they put Bowen U.S.A. on the tang & blade___what tang is on your knife ??? It could be an older ,Remington, with ""new" blades ??? The stockman, that I found awhile back (below) has been""RE-Bladed"" I think ???? ::shrug:: maybe the case, with your knife, maybe not ?? ___good luck ::tu::

Could be a newer blade welded on to a broken original tang, hard to tell from the pictures ::nod::

I'm sure the blade is original. The backbone is serated and it looks perfect. The etching is probably added later. My concern is the rivet pattern. There is a rivet by the lanyard hole. I have been told that they made them this way originally, along with 3 and even 4 rivets. More photos added.

Miller Bro`s ..(Dimitri)......might have a good point. ::nod:: ......or they sure stamped that tang awfully high. ::shrug:: ...JMO.

i said it in the general topic forum. according to jim sargents book 6th edition, page 437. remington made these knives with both 1 and 2 pins by the bolster. the 2 pinned version had the thumb grooves on top of the blade, the 1 pin did not..
the only thing that seems out of place here for me,,and what i know you could put into an empty glass and still see nothing, like johnnie pointed to, is the high tang stamp.. maybe dimitri is right and it is a welded blade, or maybe the owner of the knife is right saying it is the original blade. it needs to be authenticated with a hands on inspection from a reputable and knowledgeable knife handler, like remington collector, or dimitri, or even send it off to b. levine.
i have the camillus repro for 1990 and the blade looks slighly different. and of course delrin scales. the strange thing is that the 1990 version has 1 pin by the bolster, but it has the thumb grooves on the spine of the blade ::shrug::

bbadbri1, Very pretty knife. I have looked at it several times and checked my books
the knife seems right, I have seen the extra pin at the lanyard hole before at shows,
the etch could be new. These knives command so much monies that they do get
reworked alot. The tight fit on the tang stamp is somewhat concerning. I do hope
this knife is "right" Good luck to you on it. It is one of my all time favorite knives
and I don't own one.

The extra pin by the lanyard hole is correct, the 2 pins by the bolsters are correct for a blade with thumb grooves. Thats not an acid etch on the main blade. Compare the depth of the thumb grooves back at the tang with those further out on the blade, look at the condition of the metal around the pattern number, see how rough worn and pitted it is, I feel sure at one point the rest of the blade was in similiar condition. There should be a crocus polish on the etch side of the blade. I feel certain that either a new blade has been welded to the original tang or that the blade has been resurfaced with a new etch applied. Can you mic the blade thickness at a few places?
