WEIDMANNSHEIL

Post by jrlw1969 »

I have long wondered about these knives,never had a chance to look at one.Does their fit,finish,quality match their high price?Do they make their own knives or does another company make them?

On the ones I have had, fit was occasionally a problem.

Hello jrlw1969;

I only have one. She is a Weidmannsheil Lockback Pearl Solongen and Sticker 3".

I have not used her but she apears to be worth the money I paid for her.

I beleve she was made by Bulldog. But then my mind is :? to day.

Found the following on Ebay. Take it for what it's worth. Google is your friend.

Weidmannsheil knives are found quite commonly on Ebay. But they are often misrepresented. Althought the original company went out of business in 1991 other manufacturers have been producing them since then. Currently Bulldog/Parker knives sells them.

Often a listing states that Weidmannsheil closed in 1991 because they did not wish to sacrifice quality. Although this may be true it is misleading because buyers assume that the knives are no longer made. Most of the Weidmannsheil knives sold on Ebay are new productions.

The original company also never produced any damascus blades.

Since 1991 there have been several variations of tang stamps and shields. A knife having a stag head VS a boars head does not automatically indicate an older production.

The new Weidmannsheil knives are a good quality product however. The fit and finish is very nice and the stag used is high quality. This guide is meant to inform buyers that they may not be buying a pre 1991 knife, not to detract from the current production.

I recommend doing a little research when trying to purchase a vintage Weidmannsheil. An informed bidder is a happy bidder.
