Just Off Ebay

Post by tjmurphy »

Just did a Buy-It-Now on this one. 1946-1956 CAMILLUS Army Engineers and Marine Corps Utility Knife. I really don't think that this one has been used or carried. Still has the cosmoline or dried oil on all blades. All steel construction. Not sure if someone tried to sharpen it or not, master blade has a few scratches on it, hoping it's just in the coating. The bone handles are splendid. Was in a cold sweat when I pushed the BIN button on this one.

Super looking old Rogers bone!
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Great knife for $64, I'd have been in a cold sweat too!

Thanks Tom and Paul, I do think it is a K-nice K-nife.

Tom, I guess that you were watching that one too ::shrug:: The reason for the cold sweat is that I am used to buying those knives a lot cheaper than $64, 12-20 dollars, but from what I've found in all my recent ebay scanning, there are not too many to be found anymore. Either the blades have been ground away or broken or the bone is chipped or cracked. I've found some of the same pattern from the same era with the starting bid very close to what I paid for this one and they are not half as nice as this one. WWII era with that Grrrrrrrrrrrr8 Rogers bone simply crashes my sugar and I want to have it. Everything I buy is because I like it and want it and for no other reason.

Tom - yes I was watching this knife but not as an interested buyer but rather educating myself on current market trends.

I don't at all think you overpaid for that knife, I actually think in the condition it's in that you got it for a very fair price (fair to seller and buyer). I agree, it's getting rare to find these in the $12-$15 range unless to are buying a number of knives together. My new philosophy is that "I can always make more money but I can't make more time" and the time to buy a knife like this is when you see it. You should have no buyers remorse when this bad boy shows up.

If you want to see what attracted me to this knife take a look at my post in the thread HOK's. This is just a stack and a half of what I've got. Here is one in particular that cost me about $10.50 (including shipping) but I had to take two other knives in order to get it. It's a WWII Imperial/Prov. R.I. (1936-1952, I think) Navy Pilots Knife. This one still had the cosmoline on the blades also
