This is one heck of a fantastic tutorial of not only the process in general, but of your craftsmanship as well. Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to bring this entire project to light for us less than competent knife guys.

Being the type to dive into things, I can tell it won't be long till I take an old knife I'm not too concerned about ruining and give it a try.

Hey Muskrat Man,
I've got to say you do really good work! I've been looking at the tutorial
on the Case hawkbill you put the maple handles on. And I was just wondering
how high do you leave the scales, or I guess I should say how thick do you
leave them to allow for final sanding down so they come out flush with the
bolsters? I'm dying to try me a project but I'm trying to get my ducks in a
row before I start. I've really found out a lot just by listening to the folks in this forum and looking at the tutorials ya'll have been nice enough to take the time to share with us. It's always nice when someone with knowledge of
a subject is willing to share what he knows with others wanting to learn.

well alvie, that all depends on how thick you want the scales and this usually depends on the size of your hands. If you have big hand and prefer thicker handle you can leave them up to 1/2" thick per side and then haft them down to the bolsters to give a thicker more swelled profile. If you prefer thinner handles I use a slab of wood not over 1/16" thicker than the bolsters. But of course you can always grind more off, but you can never put it back on as they say.

The problem is the pics were hosted off-site, on Photo Bucket.
Once the account was moved, deleted or expired the pics no longer show up.
That is the problem with off site photo hosting.

That happens after time. Those pics were posted over 4 years ago.
