Case CV steel
Case CV steel
I was wondering if cold blue, like used to touch up gun metal, would help fight rust and staining on a CV case?

Yes it will but if you cold blue it, don't use your knife on food.ken98k wrote:I was wondering if cold blue, like used to touch up gun metal, would help fight rust and staining on a CV case?

Re: Case CV steel
I use a mixture of yellow mustard and vinegar to force patina when I need to. Definitely helps with rust. I think it helps reduce (not eliminate, but reduce) taste transfer when dealing with fruits (apples, pears and such).
I rub a thin layer of the mixture on, let it dry and repeat. Easy to do when working at a computer terminal (sigh).
Others I know use heated vinegar. Stinky but darker.
A few samples...
Note that stropping will remove it...

How thick do you make the mixture?

I have a Case CV jack designed by Tony Bose. It started rusting & pitting within 2 weeks of when I started EDCing it.
I used cold bluing and it really helped to slow down the rust.
