This knife was made by my gg grandfather Squire Elijah Oates (youngest son of Luke Oates). and has the mark SEO$S, Squire Elijah Oates and Son
Squire Elijah's only son was born in 1880 and Squire himself died in February 1891. He had been seriously ill for 7 years. Therefore this knife was made between 1880 and 1890, and probably in the earlier part of that range.
I guess you would not want to part with it?
Thanks again

ratlesnake75 wrote:Regular sized Sheffield Barlow Pre 1830's---I cannot decipher the tradmarks
I have blown this one up and I believe the mark is "1760", but I cannot tell if there is a name below that mark. According to the register of the Cutlers' Marks the mark "1760" was first registered to Luke Furniss (Furnish) (of Stannington) in 1758. It then passed to his son George Furniss (Furnish) who re-registered it in 1802. George died in 1838.
Therefore you can be sure this knife was pre 1838.

Here's a little barlow I got at a yard sale the other day.
A. W. Wadsworth & Son Germany.
It's quite small.
Hey, lets see some of the smallest Barlows out there.
