Case RED Bone?
Case RED Bone?
This was probably my Grandfather's and not my father's knife. It is a 1965-1969 vintage, I believe. I understand this is a bone handle. I do not see a jigging pattern. It is smooth and has a deep red color. The pattern # is 6232. It is 3 and 5/8 inches long closed. I guess you would call it a 2 blade jack but it does look like it may have been repaired. Any further info would be appreciated. I can't believe I forgot the pic. Well , yes I can.

Re: Case RED Bone?
Post a picture of it I am sure knifeaholic can tell u iff it has been repaired.PLUS WE ALL LOVE SEEING OLD RED BONE
Re: Case RED Bone?
You have everything correct except that it is not red bone (would be considered as regular bone) and it has not been repaired as far as I can tell from the pic . It used to have a definite jigging pattern , but it has been worn smoothe by pocket wear .

Re: Case RED Bone?
That is so cool. Smoothed by pocket wear. You would think you could see something left, but I can't. Thanks guys.
Re: Case RED Bone?
I did a little more study at Case College. I can't find what Red Bone is. I think I can see what is left of the Standard pattern for the handle on mine but comparing pics of old knives that say they are Red Bone, I can't see the difference. What handle material is considered Red Bone?
Re: Case RED Bone?
Now we are getting somewhere. Thanks IMband. Can you give me the pattern # on that one?
Re: Case RED Bone?
So. It has to be red stag antler to be red bone. I got it.

Re: Case RED Bone?
So is my old 6232 a pocket worn standard pattern red bone from 1965 to 1969?
Re: Case RED Bone?
I repeat , it is NOT red bone by any stretch of the imagination ! It is just listed as bone in all knife guides .Chief RID wrote:So is my old 6232 a pocket worn standard pattern red bone from 1965 to 1969?

Re: Case RED Bone?
Bob. Excuse my ignorance. What is Red Bone? Is it a look that can come from any handle material? Does it have to have a particular jigging pattern? I am trying to get some info and you seem to have it. HELP! :?
Re: Case RED Bone?
This is what I would call "redbone". Both XX USA

Re: Case RED Bone?
It has to be the color of the 6265 IMband listed or at least very near that shade of red . Many collectors "stretch the blanket" when it comes to depicting red bone , but true red bone is unmistakenly red . It has nothing to do with the jigging .Chief RID wrote:Bob. Excuse my ignorance. Nice example Gino. And a XX Era Muskrat too! Very nice!
Re: Case RED Bone?
Thanks guys. I guess mine does look a little like a Brown Bone. This sure is fun. I am looking at pocket knives for the first time at 59 years old. And to think I thought I knew what I was carrying in my pocket for over 50 years.
Re: Case RED Bone?
Sweet rat Gino.. That color is real nice!! John

Re: Case RED Bone?
Personally, I dig the knife but I dont think its a 75.00 knife. The blade, handle wear and those pins just hurt the value in my opinion. Some one might pay that for it though, you never know.

Re: Case RED Bone?
That's about what I expected. Thanks gino. Since it is a family knife it will probably never be sold but getting an idea of how things go it has helped me try to get involved. I can't wait till I pick up something I am not attached to. I have got to hit some yard sales this spring, I guess.
Re: Case RED Bone?
The problem I have is I get attached to everyone I buy, LOL. I am not lucky enough to have any family passed down knives but if I did I would never let them go.
